Job Summary
We are seeking a highly accurate, detail-oriented, and discreet Legal Typist to join our law firm. In this role, you will play a crucial part in our daily operations by transcribing audio dictations from attorneys, preparing formal legal documents, and organizing case files. The ideal candidate has strong typing speed, a solid understanding of legal terminology, and an unwavering commitment to client confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
- Legal Transcription: Transcribe audio dictations, notes, and records from attorneys into accurate correspondence, pleadings, briefs, contracts, and legal memoranda.
- Document Preparation: Draft, format, and proofread legal documents following specific court rules and firm guidelines.
- Case Management Support: Assist with organizing legal files, updating digital case management systems, and indexing documents for discovery.
- Quality Control: Meticulously review all typed material for formatting errors, spelling, punctuation, and grammatical accuracy.
- Data Privacy: Handle highly confidential client information and sensitive legal data with strict adherence to privacy policies.
Qualifications & Skills
- Typing Speed: Proven typing speed of at least 65–70 WPM with near-perfect accuracy.
- Legal Knowledge: Familiarity with basic legal terminology, formatting styles, and document structures (e.g., motions, subpoenas, agreements) is highly preferred.
- Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word (specifically using styles, templates, and advanced formatting) and digital transcription software (e.g., Express Scribe).
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional proofreading skills with zero tolerance for typographical errors.
- Confidentiality: Strict adherence to attorney-client privilege and data confidentiality standards.
- Education: High school diploma required; a certificate in Legal Secretarial Studies or Paralegal Studies is a strong asset.
