- Cutting and Shaping: Machines or gas torches cut the steel. Rollers and presses bend the heavy metal into curves.
- Sub-assemblies: Smaller parts are welded together first to make small panels.
- Block Assembly: These panels are stacked together. Fitters use heavy chains, jacks, and wedges to hold the steel pieces perfectly straight.
- Tack Welding: Temporary "tack" welds hold the blocks together before a professional welder locks them into place
