Here is a highly tailored Job Description (JD) for a Civil Engineer at Vsole Solar, specifically designed to address the infrastructure, structural stability, and structural engineering needs of a growing solar manufacturing and project development company.
Job Title: Civil & Structural EngineerJob Overview
Vsole Solar is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Civil & Structural Engineer to oversee the structural design, stability, and civil infrastructure projects across our manufacturing facilities and solar deployment sites. This role involves ensuring that solar module structures, inverter stations, and factory expansions are engineered to withstand environmental stresses while remaining highly cost-effective. The ideal candidate will combine rigorous technical calculations with hands-on site management to ensure all structural elements meet the highest standards of safety and compliance.
- Department: Engineering & Infrastructure
- Location: Manufacturing Plant / Project Sites
- Reporting To: Director / Technical Head
Key Responsibilities1. Structural Design & Solar Mount Analysis
- Load Calculations: Perform detailed dead load, live load, and wind load calculations for solar mounting structures, ground-mount installations, and industrial rooftop arrays.
- Wind Speed Optimization: Design structures optimized for high wind zones, ensuring the integrity of the solar panel mounting brackets, purlins, and rafter systems.
- Foundation Design: Engineer specialized civil foundations, including concrete pedestals, pile foundations, rammed posts, and ballast systems tailored to varying soil types and topography.
2. Factory Infrastructure & Plant Expansion
- Plant Layout Execution: Collaborate with the manufacturing operations team to oversee factory floor modifications, heavy machine foundations (for SMT lines, laminators, etc.), and structural load distribution on shop floors.
- Drainage & Civil Utilities: Design and execute proper plant drainage, cable trench routing, inverter room structures, and peripheral civil utilities required for a seamless manufacturing setup.
- Structural Stability Audits: Periodically assess and certify the structural health of existing factory buildings to ensure safe operations under heavy manufacturing conditions.
3. Site Surveying & Project Execution
- Geotechnical & Topographical Review: Analyze soil investigation reports, pull-out test data, and contour maps to determine the most viable civil design approaches.
- Vendor & Contractor Management: Supervise civil contractors on-site to ensure work aligns exactly with structural engineering drawings, project timelines, and quality benchmarks.
- Bill of Quantities (BOQ): Prepare accurate BOQs, cost estimations, and material specifications for civil works, ensuring optimized resource utilization without compromising safety.
4. Quality Control & Safety Compliance
- Material Testing: Oversee standard civil testing protocols, including concrete compressive strength tests, steel tensile testing, and soil compaction verification.
- EHS & Regulatory Alignment: Ensure all civil construction activities comply with local municipal building codes, factory factory laws, and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) guidelines.
Technical Skills & Competencies
- Software Proficiency: Hands-on expertise in STAAD.Pro, AutoCAD (2D/3D), or ETABS for structural modeling and analysis.
- Standards & Codes: Deep understanding of national structural design codes (such as IS codes for wind loads, concrete, and steel structures).
- Solar Specific Knowledge: Familiarity with tracker systems, seasonal tilt structures, and the behavior of cold-formed steel (CFS) or aluminum profiles under environmental stress.
Required QualificationsCriteriaRequirementsEducationB.E. / B.Tech in Civil Engineering (M.Tech in Structural Engineering is a major advantage).Experience3 to 4 years of experience in civil structural design or execution, preferably with exposure to industrial infrastructure or the solar energy sector.Core SkillsExcellent project tracking capability, high attention to structural safety margins, and clear vendor-management skills.
