1. Role Purpose
The Patent Research Associate will support the development and strengthening of the organization’s Intellectual Property (IP) function by conducting scientific research, patent searches, and analysis aligned with ongoing R&D activities.
The role is critical in identifying patentable innovations, generating strong technical documentation, and supporting patent filings across jurisdictions, while also contributing to cost optimization through in-house patent research and analysis.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct prior art searches and patentability assessments for new chemical innovations
- Perform scientific and technical analysis to support patent drafting and filings
- Assist in preparation, review, and drafting of patent applications (provisional and complete specifications)
- Carry out competitor analysis and patent landscape studies to identify trends, gaps, and risks
- Support freedom-to-operate (FTO) analysis to minimize infringement risks
- Coordinate with internal R&D teams to align research with current technology and patent trends
- Assist in global patent filings, including documentation and coordination with external agents
- Perform patent translation and technical interpretation of patent documents
- Maintain accurate records of patent deadlines, renewals, office actions, and prosecution status
- Track and report IP portfolio performance and updates
- Continuously monitor emerging technologies and competitor patent activity

- Number of patent searches and analyses completed per month

5. Educational Qualification & Skills
Education:
- M.Sc. (Post Graduate) in Chemistry (mandatory)
Skills Required:
- Strong understanding of chemical concepts and scientific literature
- Basic knowledge of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and patents
- Analytical thinking and research skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Ability to interpret technical and legal patent documents
- Proficiency in MS Office and scientific databases (preferred)
