You will ensure that all electrical infrastructure meets the highest standards for reliability, redundancy, and compliance with industry codes and client requirements. This role demands deep technical expertise in high-voltage distribution, backup power systems, and commissioning protocols to support continuous operations in mission-critical environments.
What your day-to-day will look like: Review and approve electrical design documents, load calculations, single-line diagrams, and specifications for medium/high-voltage distribution, UPS systems, generators, PDUs, and backup power infrastructure.
Ensure electrical systems meet data center tier requirements (Uptime Institute), TIA-942 standards, NEC/NFPA codes, and client-specific performance criteria for uptime and redundancy (N, N+1, 2N configurations).
Conduct technical evaluations of electrical submittals, equipment specifications, and vendor proposals for switchgear, transformers, automatic transfer switches, battery systems, and busway distributions.
Oversee installation quality, testing protocols, and commissioning activities for critical electrical infrastructure including load bank testing, integrated systems testing (IST), and parallel generator operations.
Collaborate with MEP design teams, contractors, and commissioning agents to resolve design conflicts, value engineering opportunities, and field coordination issues.
Lead technical risk assessments and failure mode analysis for electrical systems to identify vulnerabilities and implement mitigation strategies for continuous operations.
Provide guidance on electrical safety protocols, arc flash studies, short circuit analysis, and protective device coordination to ensure personnel and equipment protection.
Desired or preferred experience and technical skills: Minimum 10-15 years of electrical engineering experience with at least 5 years specializing in data center or mission-critical facility design, construction, and commissioning.
Deep expertise in medium/high-voltage electrical distribution, UPS systems, generator systems, and redundant power architectures (N, N+1, 2N).
Proficiency in electrical design and analysis software such as SKM PowerTools, ETAP, AutoCAD, or Revit MEP.
Strong knowledge of Uptime Institute Tier Standards, TIA-942, NEC, NFPA 70E, and other relevant electrical codes and standards.
Experience with commissioning protocols, integrated systems testing (IST), load bank testing, and parallel operations for critical infrastructure.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification preferred.
Excellent technical communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and client stakeholders.
Required Skills and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or commensurate experience in electrical design and construction for mission-critical facilities. Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly preferred but not required if equivalent experience is demonstrated.
