About Unicorn
Unicorn is a growing company based in Jaipur. We're looking for an HR Generalist to own our HR function — from hiring and onboarding to compliance, policies, and culture — and help us build a team that grows with the business.
About the role
You'll be the go-to person for everything people-related at Unicorn. The role is hands-on across recruiting, onboarding, payroll inputs and compliance, policies, performance, and employee engagement, and you'll work closely with the management team to strengthen our HR processes as the company grows.
What you'll do
Talent acquisition
- Own end-to-end hiring: role scoping with hiring managers, job descriptions, sourcing (Naukri, LinkedIn, referrals, agencies), screening, interview scheduling, offer negotiation, and closing.
- Set up and maintain an applicant tracking system, a structured interview process, and hiring scorecards.
- Strengthen our employer brand: careers page, job-board presence, referral program.
- Keep candidates engaged between offer and joining to reduce no-shows.
Onboarding and offboarding
- Run a structured onboarding program (pre-joining, day one, first 30/60/90 days) so new hires become productive fast.
- Handle documentation, background verification, and laptop/access coordination with IT and admin.
- Run exit processes: clearances, exit interviews, relieving letters, and full and final settlements.
HR operations and compliance
- Maintain employee records and manage the HRIS (leave, attendance, documents, org chart).
- Prepare monthly payroll inputs (attendance, leave, joiners, exits, reimbursements) and coordinate with the accounts team or payroll provider; ensure TDS, PF, and ESI deductions and filings are accurate and on time.
- Ensure statutory compliance: PF, ESI, gratuity, Shops & Establishments registration, POSH Act (policy and Internal Committee), Maternity Benefit Act, and the requirements under the Labour Codes; keep records audit-ready.
- Manage employee benefits such as group health insurance: vendor relationships, enrolments, and renewals.
Policies and employee handbook
- Draft, update, and roll out core policies: leave, working hours, expenses, code of conduct, IT and data security, anti-harassment (POSH), grievance redressal.
- Maintain the employee handbook and keep it current as the company grows.
Performance and growth
- Run a fair, lightweight goal-setting and performance cycle (e.g., quarterly check-ins, annual review).
- Support managers with feedback, promotions, and performance-improvement conversations.
- Develop career ladders, levels, and salary bands together with management.
Culture, engagement, and employee relations
- Be the trusted point of contact for employees; handle grievances and conflicts with discretion and fairness.
- Run engagement pulses and team activities, and act on what you learn.
- Coach managers on the basics of managing people.
HR reporting
- Track and report headcount, hiring funnel, time-to-hire, attrition, and engagement to management every month.
What we're looking for
Must-have
- 1–5 years of hands-on HR experience. Experience in a small or mid-sized company where you handled HR end-to-end is a strong plus.
- End-to-end recruiting experience: sourcing, screening, coordinating interviews, and closing offers.
- Working knowledge of Indian labour law and statutory compliance — PF, ESI, gratuity, POSH, Shops & Establishments — and of preparing payroll inputs.
- Comfortable with HR software (any HRIS, ATS, or payroll tool) and with Excel or Google Sheets.
- Clear written and spoken communication; able to draft policies and handle sensitive conversations with tact.
- High integrity and discretion — you'll handle confidential information every day.
- Ownership mindset: proactive, organised, and comfortable handling several HR areas at once.
Nice-to-have
- MBA / PGDM in HR or equivalent.
- Experience implementing an HRIS or ATS.
- Exposure to CTC structuring and compensation benchmarking.
- Familiarity with the new Labour Codes.
What success looks like
- First 30 days: Understand the team; review current HR practices and compliance status; bring employee records and the HRIS up to date.
- First 60 days: Hiring pipeline running with structured interviews; onboarding program in place; core policies reviewed and updated.
- First 90 days: Employee handbook published; compliance gaps closed; performance framework agreed with management; first engagement pulse completed; monthly HR report in place.
Why join us
- Own the HR function end-to-end — your processes, your systems, your name on it.
- Work directly with the management team and see how every part of the business runs.
- Grow into an HR leadership role as the company expands.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹55,000.00 per month
Application Question(s):
- Walk us through how you would hire a role end-to-end, and which sourcing channels have actually worked for you.
- What statutory obligations apply to a company at 10 employees, and which ones are added at 20?
- Management wants to let someone go today for poor performance. There's no documentation and the person has two years of service. What would you advise?
- Tell us about one HR process you set up or significantly improved. What was it, and what would you do differently now?
- Are you currently employed? If yes, please share your current CTC, expected CTC, and notice period. If not, please share your last drawn CTC and the reason for the gap.
