Senior Data Engineer — Knowledge Graph Pune · FULL_TIME · HYBRID
About the Role The Senior Data Engineer will be part of the Data Engineering team, responsible for evaluating and benchmarking graph database technologies. The role involves designing and executing data loading pipelines, running performance benchmarks, and assessing operational characteristics of candidate technologies. The goal is to provide a written technical analysis and recommendation for the architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement benchmark queries across candidate technologies in their native query languages.
- Design and execute data loading pipelines to bulk-load a representative dataset into each candidate technology.
- Run performance benchmarks under cold start, warm cache, and concurrent load conditions.
- Contribute to use case assessment and evaluate whether they require graph database capabilities.
- Assess operational characteristics of each candidate, including deployment model, clustering, and cloud portability.
- Evaluate query expressiveness and licensing and TCO at production scale for each candidate.
- Produce structured benchmark results and contribute written technical analysis to the architecture recommendation document.
- Present findings to Engineering, Product, and Architecture leadership.
Requirements
- Hands-on production or benchmarking experience with at least two graph database technologies, preferably Neo4j and/or TigerGraph.
- Proficiency in at least two graph query languages: Cypher, GSQL, nGQL, AQL, or openCypher.
- Solid understanding of graph data modeling and graph algorithms.
- Strong PostgreSQL skills, including recursive CTEs, materialized views, and query plan analysis.
- Demonstrated experience designing and executing structured technology benchmarks or POC evaluations at enterprise scale.
- Experience bulk-loading datasets at scale into graph and/or relational databases.
- Sound performance measurement methodology and data pipeline design experience.
Good to Have
- Prior experience evaluating or selecting database technologies in an enterprise context.
- Experience working with large-scale graph data beyond proof-of-concept scale.
- Cloud-native database deployment experience on AWS, with awareness of Azure and GCP patterns.
- Kubernetes operational experience for database workloads.
- Domain familiarity with compliance, KYC/AML, or financial services data.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to work with cutting-edge graph database technologies.
- Collaborative environment with a team of experienced data engineers.
- Professional growth and development opportunities.
