Job Summary
JD Institute of Fashion Technology is looking for a creative and industry-oriented Fashion Styling Faculty to train and mentor students in the field of fashion styling, image development, trend forecasting, and visual presentation. The faculty member will be responsible for delivering theoretical and practical sessions, conducting styling projects, and helping students develop strong creative concepts and professional styling portfolios.
The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of contemporary fashion, styling techniques, visual communication, and fashion trends, along with excellent communication and mentoring skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct engaging theoretical and practical sessions on Fashion Styling.
- Teach fundamentals and advanced concepts of fashion styling, personal styling, editorial styling, and commercial styling.
- Guide students in developing styling concepts based on themes, target audiences, occasions, and creative briefs.
- Teach colour theory, silhouettes, proportions, balance, coordination, and outfit composition.
- Train students in wardrobe planning, garment coordination, accessorising, and complete-look development.
- Introduce students to different areas of styling, including editorial, celebrity, e-commerce, advertising, runway, personal, and commercial styling.
- Teach students how to research and interpret fashion trends, forecasts, designers, brands, and cultural influences.
- Guide students in creating mood boards, concept boards, styling boards, and visual narratives.
- Provide practical guidance for photoshoots, fashion editorials, campaigns, lookbooks, and portfolio development.
- Collaborate with photographers, models, makeup artists, hair stylists, and other creative professionals for styling projects.
- Teach students about accessories, footwear, jewellery, makeup, hair, and overall image coordination.
- Develop students' understanding of fashion communication and visual storytelling.
- Guide students in selecting appropriate garments, fabrics, colours, prints, accessories, and styling elements for different concepts.
- Encourage experimentation, creativity, and development of an individual styling identity.
- Evaluate assignments, practical projects, styling presentations, and portfolios.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to improve their creative and professional skills.
- Keep updated with current fashion trends, global styling practices, designers, brands, social media trends, and emerging fashion movements.
- Prepare lesson plans, presentations, practical exercises, briefs, and assessment activities.
- Maintain attendance, assessment records, internal marks, and other academic documentation.
- Coordinate with the HOD and Academic Team for curriculum planning, exhibitions, fashion shows, student activities, and industry projects.
- Ensure timely completion of assigned modules and academic deliverables.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of fashion styling and image development.
- Excellent understanding of fashion trends, designers, brands, and contemporary fashion.
- Strong skills in visual research, concept development, mood boarding, and styling composition.
- Good understanding of colour, silhouette, proportion, styling, and accessorising.
- Strong creative and visual communication skills.
- Good understanding of fashion photography and photoshoot styling.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and mentoring skills.
- Ability to translate creative concepts into practical styling projects.
- Strong organisational and project management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with creative teams.
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fashion Design, Fashion Styling, Fashion Communication, Fashion Management, or a related field.
- Relevant professional certification in Fashion Styling will be an added advantage.
Experience
- 2–5 years of relevant industry and/or teaching experience in Fashion Styling, Fashion Communication, Image Consulting, Editorial Styling, or related fields.
- Candidates with strong industry experience and a professional styling portfolio may also be considered.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Prior teaching experience in a fashion/design institute will be preferred.
- Experience in editorial shoots, fashion campaigns, e-commerce styling, personal styling, fashion shows, or celebrity styling will be an advantage.
- Strong professional portfolio demonstrating styling projects and creative direction.
- Good industry connections and exposure to fashion brands, photographers, models, makeup artists, and creative professionals will be an added advantage.
- Passionate about teaching, mentoring, and developing students' creative abilities.
- Strong awareness of emerging fashion and social media trends.
