Key ResponsibilitiesPLC and HMI Development
- Develop PLC programs for pharmaceutical machinery and process equipment based on approved functional requirements.
- Design and configure HMI/SCADA screens for machine operation, monitoring, alarms, and diagnostics.
- Prepare control logic, sequence operations, and machine interlocks in accordance with project specifications.
- Modify existing software to accommodate design improvements and customer requirements.
- Develop and maintain standardized software libraries and reusable program modules.
Automation System Integration
- Integrate PLC systems with drives, sensors, actuators, servo systems, pneumatic controls, and field instruments.
- Configure communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profinet, Profibus, RS-485, and OPC where applicable.
- Coordinate with electrical design engineers for control panel requirements and I/O mapping.
- Support integration of barcode readers, printers, vision systems, data logging systems, and other peripheral devices.
Testing and Commissioning
- Conduct simulation, debugging, and functional testing of automation programs before machine trials.
- Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and ensure compliance with customer specifications.
- Participate in Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and machine commissioning activities at customer locations.
- Troubleshoot software and control-related issues during assembly, testing, and installation.
- Provide prompt support during startup and validation activities.
Documentation and Compliance
- Prepare and maintain software documentation, including:
- Functional Design Specifications (FDS)
- I/O Lists
- Software Backup Files
- Alarm Lists
- User Manuals
- Commissioning Reports
- Change History Records
- Ensure documentation is accurate and updated for future reference.
- Follow internal engineering procedures and documentation practices.
Customer and Technical Support
- Provide technical support to service engineers and customers regarding automation-related issues.
- Conduct operator training and explain machine functionality to customers during commissioning.
- Respond to service calls and assist in remote troubleshooting when required.
- Support upgrades and retrofitting of existing customer machines.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3–7 years of experience in PLC programming and machine automation.
- Experience in pharmaceutical machinery, packaging machinery, process equipment, or industrial automation is preferred.
- Fresh graduates with strong automation knowledge may be considered for trainee positions.
Technical Skills
- Hands-on experience with PLC platforms such as:
- Siemens (S7-1200, S7-1500, TIA Portal)
- Allen-Bradley (CompactLogix, ControlLogix)
- Mitsubishi
- Delta
- Omron
- Schneider Electric
- Experience in HMI development using platforms such as Siemens WinCC, Weintek, Pro-face, or similar.
- Knowledge of SCADA systems and industrial communication protocols.
- Understanding of VFDs, servo drives, motion control, and PID control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, control schematics, and P&ID diagrams.
- Familiarity with machine safety concepts, interlocks, and emergency stop circuits.
- Knowledge of data acquisition and integration with higher-level systems is desirable.
- Understanding of GMP principles and pharmaceutical industry expectations is an added advantage.
Travel Requirements
- Domestic and international travel may be required for commissioning, troubleshooting, customer training, and service support.
- Flexibility to travel on short notice based on project requirements.
