Location: Plant Site
1. Job Purpose
To manage and supervise the DRI plant process during the assigned shift and ensure safe, smooth, and efficient plant operation while achieving production, quality, and consumption targets.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and control the complete DRI production process during the assigned shift.
- Ensure achievement of daily and shift-wise production targets.
- Monitor Rotary Kiln, Cooler, Product Handling System, and other process equipment.
- Maintain critical process parameters such as temperature, pressure, RPM, feed rate, coal ratio, and air flow within prescribed limits.
- Monitor DRI quality parameters and ensure production as per specified quality standards.
- Identify abnormal process conditions and take immediate corrective action.
- Coordinate with Maintenance, Electrical, Mechanical, Quality, and other departments for smooth plant operation.
- Allocate manpower effectively and ensure proper utilization of shift manpower.
- Ensure compliance with SOPs, work instructions, operating procedures, and process standards.
- Maintain proper shift logbooks, production reports, process records, and other required documentation.
- Monitor raw material, coal, and other consumable consumption and minimize unnecessary losses.
- Monitor equipment performance and immediately report breakdowns or abnormalities to the concerned department.
- Ensure proper shift handover and communicate all important process conditions, breakdowns, and pending activities to the incoming shift.
- Maintain proper housekeeping and 5S standards in the assigned area.
- Ensure discipline and compliance with company rules among shift employees.
- Investigate production losses, process deviations, and quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct regular toolbox talks and process/safety briefings for shift personnel.
- Ensure all employees follow prescribed PPE and safety requirements.
- Take immediate action during emergencies such as fire, gas leakage, equipment failure, or other unsafe conditions.
- Prepare and submit shift-wise production and performance reports to the Reporting Officer.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Production Head / Plant Head.
3. Safety Responsibilities
- Ensure strict compliance with all plant safety rules and procedures.
- Ensure proper use of PPE by all employees and contract workers.
- Follow Permit to Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and other safety procedures.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions and unsafe practices.
- Ensure emergency procedures are followed during any incident.
- Promote a strong safety culture within the shift.
4. Qualification
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech. in Metallurgy, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Relevant experience in DRI/Sponge Iron Plant operations is preferred.
- Good knowledge of Rotary Kiln and DRI process operations.
5. Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of DRI/Sponge Iron production processes.
- Good understanding of process parameters and troubleshooting.
- Leadership and manpower management skills.
- Good decision-making and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to coordinate with multiple departments.
- Knowledge of safety, quality, and production systems.
- Basic knowledge of MS Office and production reporting.
- Good communication and shift management skills.
6. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Achievement of shift-wise production targets.
- DRI quality and metallization.
- Reduction in specific coal and raw material consumption.
- Reduction in process losses and production downtime.
- Equipment availability and operational efficiency.
- Safety compliance and prevention of major incidents.
- Effective manpower utilization.
- Accuracy and timely submission of shift reports.
- Housekeeping and 5S compliance.
7. Accountability
The Process Shift Incharge is responsible for the overall process operation of the assigned DRI plant shift, including production, process control, quality, manpower utilization, safety, housekeeping, and coordination with supporting departments. Any major deviation, breakdown, safety incident, or production loss must be immediately reported to the concerned senior authority.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
