Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Commis II to join our café kitchen team. The Commis II is responsible for assisting in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food items while ensuring high standards of quality, hygiene, and food safety. The ideal candidate is passionate about food, eager to learn, and capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced café environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesFood Preparation
- Prepare ingredients, sandwiches, salads, pastries, breakfast items, and other café menu offerings according to standard recipes.
- Assist in cooking and plating food while maintaining consistency in quality and presentation.
- Ensure proper portion control and minimize food wastage.
- Support the preparation of daily specials and seasonal menu items.
Kitchen Operations
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, storage areas, and workstations.
- Ensure all kitchen equipment and utensils are cleaned, sanitized, and stored properly.
- Assist with receiving, checking, and storing deliveries according to food safety standards.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the Kitchen Supervisor or Head Chef.
Food Safety & Hygiene
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations at all times.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and rotation of food items using FIFO (First In, First Out) practices.
- Maintain personal hygiene and wear the required uniform and protective equipment.
- Comply with company policies, health regulations, and workplace safety standards.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure timely food preparation and service.
- Support colleagues during busy service periods.
- Participate in training sessions and continuously improve culinary skills and product knowledge.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or a certificate/diploma in Culinary Arts or Hospitality is preferred.
- 1–2 years of experience in a café, bakery, restaurant, or hotel kitchen.
- Basic understanding of food preparation techniques and kitchen operations.
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
