Job Description – Junior Student Counselor (Pre-Primary to Grade 2)Job Summary
L.P. Savani Academy School is seeking a compassionate, patient, and child-friendly Junior Student Counselor to support the emotional, social, and behavioral development of students from Pre-Primary to Grade 2. The counselor will work closely with students, parents, teachers, and school leadership to create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment that promotes the overall well-being and holistic development of every child.
Key Responsibilities Student Counseling & Emotional Support
- Provide age-appropriate individual counseling to students experiencing emotional, behavioral, social, or adjustment-related concerns.
- Help children develop emotional awareness, self-confidence, resilience, and positive coping skills.
- Build trusting relationships with young learners through play-based, activity-based, and child-centered counseling approaches.
- Support students in managing separation anxiety, classroom transitions, friendships, emotional regulation, and school adjustment.
Early Identification & Intervention
- Observe students to identify developmental, behavioral, emotional, or learning concerns at an early stage.
- Conduct informal assessments and maintain observation records to support intervention planning.
- Collaborate with teachers and parents to develop appropriate support strategies for identified students.
- Monitor student progress and recommend further evaluation when necessary.
Classroom & Group Programs
- Conduct classroom guidance sessions on topics such as:
- Feelings and emotions
- Friendship and sharing
- Positive behaviour
- Respect and kindness
- Personal safety
- Good habits and routines
- Self-confidence and communication
- Organize interactive activities, storytelling sessions, games, and workshops that promote social-emotional learning.
Parent Partnership
- Build positive relationships with parents through regular communication and consultation.
- Guide parents on child behavior, emotional development, school readiness, positive discipline, and effective parenting practices.
- Conduct parent orientation sessions and awareness programs on child development and mental well-being.
- Maintain confidentiality while discussing student concerns with families.
Teacher Collaboration
- Work closely with Pre-Primary and Primary teachers to support students' emotional and behavioral needs.
- Assist teachers in implementing classroom behavior management strategies.
- Provide recommendations for supporting children requiring additional emotional or behavioral assistance.
- Participate in student review meetings and parent-teacher conferences whenever required.
Child Protection & Student Well-being
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and emotionally supportive school environment.
- Support the implementation of child safeguarding and child protection policies.
- Identify concerns related to bullying, neglect, emotional distress, or other welfare issues and report them through appropriate school procedures.
Documentation & Record Keeping
- Maintain confidential counseling records, observation reports, intervention plans, and parent meeting records.
- Prepare periodic reports on student progress and counseling interventions.
- Ensure documentation complies with school policies and professional ethical standards.
Awareness & Preventive Programs
- Plan and conduct age-appropriate preventive programs focusing on:
- Emotional well-being
- Positive behavior
- Anti-bullying awareness
- Safety education
- Mental health awareness
- Social and emotional learning (SEL)
- Celebrate mental wellness initiatives through classroom and school-wide activities.
Collaboration & Professional Development
- Work collaboratively with school leaders, teachers, special educators, and healthcare professionals when required.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, workshops, and professional development programs.
- Stay updated with current research and best practices in early childhood counseling and child psychology.
QualificationsEducation
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree (M.A./M.Sc.) in Psychology, Child Psychology, Educational Psychology, or Counseling Psychology (Essential).
- Diploma or certification in Child Counseling, Play Therapy, or Early Childhood Development will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in student counseling, child psychology, preschool, or primary school counseling.
- Experience working with children aged 3–8 years will be preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong empathy, patience, and active listening abilities.
- Knowledge of child growth, development, and early childhood psychology.
- Ability to build trust and rapport with young children.
- Familiarity with play-based and child-centered counseling techniques.
- Ability to identify early emotional, behavioral, and developmental concerns.
- Strong observation, documentation, and record-keeping skills.
- Effective collaboration with parents, teachers, and school leadership.
- Basic computer proficiency (MS Office, Google Workspace, and school management systems).
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Commitment to student well-being, confidentiality, and ethical counseling practices.
Working Hours
8:00 AM to 3:30 PM (or as per school requirements).
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹20,000.00 per month
