Trainer – Solar Panel Installation Technician
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and qualified Trainer – Solar Panel Installation Technician for its skill development training programs in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.
The trainer will be responsible for delivering theoretical and practical training in solar photovoltaic systems, site assessment, installation, wiring, mounting structures, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance, electrical safety, and workplace safety.
The training shall be delivered as per the prescribed curriculum, Qualification Pack/NOS, NSQF standards, and applicable skill development guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver classroom and practical training for the Solar Panel Installation Technician job role.
- Train candidates in the fundamentals of solar photovoltaic power generation.
- Explain the components and working principles of solar PV systems.
- Provide hands-on training in:
- Solar PV module identification
- Site survey and site assessment
- Shadow analysis
- Roof and ground-mount installation
- Mounting structure assembly
- Solar module installation
- DC cabling and routing
- AC cabling and connections
- MC4 connector preparation
- Earthing and grounding
- Inverter installation
- Distribution board connections
- System testing and commissioning
- Preventive maintenance
- Basic troubleshooting
- Train candidates on major solar PV system components such as:
- Solar PV modules
- Inverters
- Mounting structures
- Junction boxes
- DCDB / ACDB
- Cables and connectors
- Earthing systems
- Batteries, wherever applicable
- Charge controllers, wherever applicable
- Explain different types of solar systems, including:
- Grid-connected systems
- Off-grid systems
- Hybrid solar systems
- Rooftop solar installations
- Train candidates in reading basic electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and single-line diagrams.
- Demonstrate the correct use of tools and testing instruments such as:
- Digital multimeter
- Clamp meter
- Insulation tester
- Crimping tools
- Wire strippers
- Measuring tools
- Torque tools
- Solar installation hand tools
- Train candidates in electrical measurements including voltage, current, continuity, polarity, and insulation checks.
- Explain basic concepts of series and parallel connections of solar modules.
- Train candidates in cable sizing, connector termination, and safe routing of electrical cables.
- Provide practical training in inverter connections, module string formation, and system integration.
- Explain common faults in solar PV systems and basic troubleshooting procedures.
- Train candidates in inspection, cleaning, routine maintenance, and performance checks of solar installations.
- Ensure strict compliance with electrical safety and workplace safety practices.
- Train candidates in:
- PPE usage
- Working-at-height safety
- Ladder safety
- Electrical isolation
- Lockout/tagout awareness
- Fire safety
- Safe handling of tools and equipment
- Conduct practical demonstrations, field simulations, and installation exercises.
- Ensure training delivery as per prescribed Qualification Pack (QP), National Occupational Standards (NOS), NSQF curriculum, and training hours.
- Prepare lesson plans, session plans, presentations, assignments, practical exercises, and demonstrations.
- Conduct regular internal assessments, mock tests, practical evaluations, and revision sessions.
- Maintain candidate attendance, assessment records, practical logs, tool registers, and other training documentation.
- Identify candidates requiring additional support and provide remedial training.
- Prepare candidates for final assessment and certification.
- Train candidates in employability skills, workplace communication, discipline, teamwork, and interview preparation.
- Coordinate with the Centre Manager, Training Coordinator, Assessors, and Project Team for smooth implementation of the training program.
- Support placement activities by preparing candidates for opportunities with solar EPC companies, renewable energy firms, rooftop solar installers, electrical contractors, and solar service organizations.
Qualification
Candidates should preferably possess one of the following qualifications:
- ITI in Electrician
- ITI in Wireman
- ITI in Electronics Mechanic
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering
- Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering
- Diploma in Electronics Engineering
- Diploma in Renewable Energy / Solar Technology
- B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical, EEE, Electronics, Mechanical, Renewable Energy, or related discipline
- Any other relevant technical qualification with experience in Solar PV installation
Experience
- Minimum 2–3 years of relevant industry and/or training experience in solar PV installation, electrical works, renewable energy, rooftop solar, or related areas.
- Candidates with hands-on experience in solar panel installation, wiring, inverter installation, testing, and commissioning will be preferred.
- Experience with solar EPC companies, electrical contractors, renewable energy companies, or solar installation agencies will be an added advantage.
- Previous experience as a Solar Trainer / Solar PV Trainer / Electrical Trainer / Solar Installation Technician will be preferred.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of solar photovoltaic systems.
- Hands-on experience in solar module installation and electrical connections.
- Good understanding of inverters, mounting structures, cabling, earthing, and protection systems.
- Practical knowledge of electrical testing instruments.
- Understanding of grid-connected, off-grid, and hybrid solar systems.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and basic electrical drawings.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of rooftop safety and working-at-height procedures.
- Understanding of electrical safety and PPE requirements.
- Ability to conduct practical workshop and field-based training.
- Strong classroom management and practical demonstration skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts in a simple and practical manner.
- Basic computer knowledge including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to communicate effectively in Telugu is essential; working knowledge of English and Hindi will be an added advantage.
