Job Purpose:
The Project Engineer will serve as the central anchor for executing engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning workflows. This role links initial engineering design, EPCM contractors, raw equipment vendors, and on-site construction teams to safely scale up chemical manufacturing lines on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Execution & Management: Develop detailed project installation timelines, track execution baselines, monitor capital expenditure budgets, and adjust milestones to ensure timely project delivery.
- Site Erection & Supervision: Oversee on-site fabrication, structural erection, equipment positioning, heavy piping layouts, loop checking, and hydro-testing of mechanical systems.
- Engineering & Drawing Reviews: Review and validate engineering drawings, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), vendor technical documents, and layouts ensuring absolute technical and regulatory compliance.
- Procurement Support & SAP: Formally assist in material requirement planning, technical vendor offer evaluation (for reactors, distillation columns, utilities), and drive the procurement-to-pay loop via Bill of Materials (BOM), PR, and PO handling in SAP ERP.
- Commissioning & Handover: Plan and conduct factory/site acceptance tests (FAT/SAT) and validation protocols (IQ, OQ, PQ); lead commissioning activities and manage the formal closeout punch-list for plant handover.
- Safety & QA/QC Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to corporate HSE standards and industry regulations. Actively participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), HAZOP studies, and Management of Change (MOC) workflows. Track Quality Assurance inspections and resolve Non-Conformance Reports (NCR).
- Stakeholder Coordination: Actively coordinate with EPCM contractors, clients, management, and internal cross-functional teams (Production, QA, EHS, Maintenance) to clear bottlenecks and deliver regular progress reports.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering from a recognized university. (Post-Graduate qualification in Project Management is a strong plus).
- Experience: 3 to 7+ years of core project engineering or capital project execution experience within Specialty Chemicals, Fine Chemicals, Petrochemicals, or Pharma API expansion environments.
- Asset Expertise: Direct execution familiarity with high-pressure/batch reactors (SSR, GLR), agitator vessels, heat exchangers, distillation columns, and industrial utility grids (Boilers, high-tonnage Chillers, Air Compressors, RO plants).
- Software Skills: Hands-on experience using SAP ERP (MM/PM modules), AutoCAD/SolidWorks viewers, and project management/scheduling tools (MS Project, Excel, or Primavera).
