We are looking for an experienced DB2 for z/OS System Administrator to manage, maintain, optimize, and support enterprise DB2 environments. The role involves DB2 administration, performance tuning, upgrades, disaster recovery, troubleshooting, and integration with key z/OS technologies.
You will work closely with application and infrastructure teams to maintain stable, secure, and highly available DB2 environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade DB2 for z/OS subsystems.
- Plan and execute DB2 version upgrades, migrations, and maintenance activities.
- Configure and support DB2 Data Sharing environments.
- Manage DB2 infrastructure for availability, resiliency, high availability, and disaster recovery.
- Monitor and optimize DB2 subsystem performance and resource utilization.
- Perform DB2 performance tuning, buffer pool optimization, and SQL diagnostics.
- Support application and infrastructure teams during major incidents and performance issues.
- Manage and define standards for DB2 utilities including REORG, RUNSTATS, COPY, and RECOVER.
- Support backup, recovery, capacity planning, and database growth activities.
- Integrate DB2 with z/OS, CICS, IMS, MQ, RACF, and storage platforms.
- Perform problem determination using SMF/RMF analysis and other diagnostic tools.
- Follow enterprise change and release management processes.
- Maintain technical documentation and coordinate with relevant stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Strong hands-on experience in DB2 for z/OS Administration.
- Experience with DB2 installation, configuration, Data Sharing, and SMP/E maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of DB2 performance tuning and troubleshooting.
- Experience with buffer pool optimization and SQL diagnostics.
- Hands-on knowledge of DB2 utilities:
- REORG
- RUNSTATS
- COPY
- RECOVER
- Experience with disaster recovery planning and high-availability environments.
- Good understanding of z/OS internals.
- Experience with SMF/RMF analysis and problem determination.
- Knowledge of enterprise change and release management processes.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2016/2019.
- Experience with VMware ESX.
- Experience managing public/private cloud environments, including on-premises-to-cloud migrations.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Good to Have
- IBM Certified Database Administrator – Db2 for z/OS certification.
- Experience with IBM DB2 Tools.
- Experience with monitoring/database management tools such as:
- OMEGAMON
- BMC MainView
- CA Database Management solutions
- Knowledge of automation tools such as REXX, CLIST, and Ansible.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD practices.
- Knowledge of z/OSMF, IBM Z, Parallel Sysplex, and GDPS.
- Experience with enterprise high-availability solutions.
- Experience with vulnerability management.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and ADFS.
Education / Qualifications
- Relevant technical education or equivalent professional experience.
- IBM Certified Database Administrator – Db2 for z/OS certification is preferred.
