Job Purpose
The Lead Pipeline Design Engineer oversees the technical execution, mechanical integrity, and design delivery of onshore and offshore oil and gas pipeline projects. This role involves leading a team of engineers and designers to deliver mechanical design calculations, material procurement packages, pipeline stress analyses, and detailed drafting packages while ensuring full compliance with international standards (API, ASME, ISO) and client specifications.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design Engineering & Technical Calculations
- Establish the Pipeline Design Basis, project specifications, and scope of work for pipeline projects.
- Lead and verify critical pipeline engineering calculations, including:
- Pipe Wall Thickness calculations as per ASME B31.4 / B31.8.
- Highway & Railway Crossing Calculations as per API-1102.
- Upheaval Buckling, Elastic Bend, and Anti-Buoyancy/Weight Coating calculations.
- Anchor Load/Force calculations and Hydrostatic Test pressure/volume parameters.
2. Pipe Stress Analysis & Support Engineering
- Perform and review pipeline and piping stress analysis using CAESAR II to verify structural integrity under thermal, pressure, and environmental loads.
- Approve design requirements for piping supports, expansion loops, and maintain the Project Support Index.
3. Material Specifications, Data Sheets & Procurement (TBE)
- Author and review Pipeline Material Specifications (PMS) covering Line Pipe, Pipe Coating, Field Joint Coating (FJC), Insulation Joints, Valves, Fittings, and Flanges.
- Prepare, review, and finalize Equipment Data Sheets and Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE) for specialized line items:
- Pig Launchers & Receivers (Scraper Traps) and Pig Signallers.
- Ball Valves, Barred Tees, and Monolithic Isolation Joints.
- Manage Material Take-Off (MTO) generation and auditing to ensure accuracy in procurement.
4. Drawing Review, Crossing Design & Interfaces
- Review and approve multidisciplinary engineering deliverables:
- Route/Strip Maps, Alignment Sheets, XTD Maps, and Station Approach Drawings.
- Special crossing details (Road, Railway, Wadi, Third-Party Crossings, Existing Cable/Pipeline Intersections).
- Scraper Trap Layouts, Piping GADs, Plot Plans, Key Plans, Isometrics, and Hot Tap details.
- Review survey reports and manage Tie-In Schedules, Hydrostatic Test Diagrams, and As-Built drawings.
5. Leadership, Quality Control & Interface Management
- Lead a team of engineers and CAD designers, managing task assignments, design schedules, and deliverable quality.
- Interface directly with Clients, Third-Party Verification (TPV) agencies, and EPC Contractors to resolve technical queries (TQ) and design issues.
- Ensure strict adherence to Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) standards, HSE guidelines, and industry codes.
Key Qualifications & Core Competencies
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- Experience: 10–15+ years of pipeline design engineering experience in the Oil & Gas sector, with demonstrated leadership experience.
- Technical Software Expertise: CAESAR II, API-1102 calculation software, PipePhase/HYSYS (plus), AutoCAD/MicroStation familiarity.
- Codes & Standards Mastery: API 1102, ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, ASME B16.5/16.9/16.34, ISO 13623, DNV standards.
