- 2–3 years of relevant clinical and/or Infection Control experience in a hospital setting.
Job Summary
The Infection Control Nurse (ICN) is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the hospital's Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) program. The ICN ensures compliance with infection control standards, promotes patient safety, and supports quality improvement initiatives through surveillance, audits, staff education, and continuous monitoring.
Key ResponsibilitiesInfection Prevention & Control
- Implement and monitor infection prevention and control policies, protocols, and standard operating procedures.
- Conduct surveillance of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs) and maintain infection surveillance data.
- Monitor infection trends and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure adherence to standard precautions, transmission-based precautions, and isolation protocols.
- Investigate infection outbreaks and coordinate containment measures.
Audits & Compliance
- Conduct regular audits on:
- Hand hygiene compliance
- PPE usage
- Biomedical waste management
- Environmental cleaning and disinfection
- Sterilization and disinfection practices
- Ensure compliance with NABH standards and hospital infection control policies.
- Follow up on corrective and preventive actions arising from audit findings.
Training & Education
- Conduct induction and periodic infection control training for clinical and non-clinical staff.
- Educate employees on hand hygiene, PPE usage, biomedical waste segregation, and infection prevention practices.
- Promote awareness of infection control measures across the hospital.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain monthly infection control reports and infection surveillance data.
- Participate in Infection Control Committee meetings and present infection indicators.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to infection control activities.
Coordination
- Coordinate with Nursing, Medical, Quality, Housekeeping, CSSD, OT, Laboratory, and Biomedical departments to ensure compliance with infection control standards.
- Support quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Skills Required
- Strong knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.
- Familiarity with NABH standards and biomedical waste management.
- Excellent communication, training, and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and reporting skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
