The Academic Counsellor plays a pivotal role in guiding students through their academic journey, providing support, advice, and resources to help them achieve their educational and career goals. This position involves working closely with students, faculty, and parents to foster a positive and productive learning environment, ensuring students make informed decisions about their academic paths and personal development.
- Provide comprehensive academic advising to students, assisting with course selection, degree planning, and understanding academic policies and requirements.
- Guide students in exploring various academic programs, majors, and career pathways, aligning their interests and strengths with suitable educational opportunities.
- Monitor student academic progress, identify those at risk, and develop intervention strategies to support their success, including referrals to tutoring or other support services.
- Conduct individual and group counselling sessions to address academic challenges, personal issues impacting studies, and career aspirations.
- Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and parents/guardians to ensure a holistic approach to student support and development.
- Organize and deliver workshops and presentations on topics such as study skills, time management, stress reduction, college applications, and career readiness.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions, academic plans, and progress using designated systems.
- Stay informed about current educational trends, university admission requirements, scholarship opportunities, and career market demands.
- Assist students with the transition to higher education or professional life, providing guidance on application processes, resume building, and interview preparation.
- Act as a liaison between students and various university departments or external resources when necessary.
