Senior Engineer – Material Planning

Experience
4–7 Years in Material Planning, Production Planning, or Supply Chain
Qualification
- B.E./B. Tech in Mechanical, Production, Industrial Engineering or equivalent
- Supply Chain certification (Preferred)
Purpose of the Role
To ensure timely availability of all production materials by planning material requirements, monitoring inventory, coordinating procurement, and proactively mitigating supply risks to achieve customer delivery commitments while optimising inventory levels.
Key Responsibilities
1.Material Planning
- Review the Master Production Schedule (MPS) and generate material requirements.
- Plan raw materials, bought-out items, fabricated components, and consumables.
- Ensure material availability before releasing production orders.
- Plan procurement requirements based on lead time and production priorities.
- Monitor planning parameters such as reorder levels, safety stock, and lead times.
2. Inventory Planning & Control
- Maintain inventory within approved norms.
- Minimise excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory.
- Monitor inventory ageing and recommend corrective actions.
- Optimise inventory without impacting customer deliveries.
- Participate in cycle count reconciliation and inventory accuracy improvement.
3. Production Coordination
- Work closely with PPC to align material availability with the production schedule.
- Identify shortages and communicate recovery plans.
- Support production rescheduling during material constraints.
- Ensure uninterrupted material flow to manufacturing.
4. Procurement Coordination
- Raise purchase requisitions (or planning signals) as per material requirements.
- Track open purchase orders with Procurement.
- Monitor committed delivery dates for critical materials.
- Escalate supply risks to Procurement and management.
- Provide priority lists for expediting materials.
Note: Procurement owns supplier communication, commercial follow-up, and delivery commitments. Material Planning owns visibility of material readiness and timely escalation.
5. Engineering Coordination
- Review BOM revisions and engineering changes.
- Assess the impact of engineering changes on material requirements.
- Prevent shortages arising from BOM inaccuracies.
- Coordinate engineering change implementation in material plans.
6. Stores Coordination
- Ensure inventory accuracy.
- Resolve stock discrepancies affecting planning.
- Monitor material reservations and allocations.
- Verify availability of critical materials before production release.
7. ERP & Master Data
- Maintain planning master data (lead times, reorder parameters, planning policies).
- Ensure timely and accurate ERP planning transactions.
- Validate planning data for accuracy.
8. Reporting & MIS
Prepare and review:
- Material shortage reports.
- Material availability reports.
- Inventory ageing reports.
- Inventory coverage reports.
- Material readiness reports.
- Critical shortage dashboards.
- Weekly planning performance reports.
9. Continuous Improvement
- Improve planning accuracy.
- Reduce inventory while maintaining service levels.
- Improve material availability.
- Reduce emergency purchases and shortages.
- Standardise planning processes.
- Improve planning through ERP and automation.
