Job Description
The Procurement Engineer – MEP Projects is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, purchasing, and coordinating the timely delivery of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) materials, equipment, and subcontractor services for construction projects. The role ensures procurement activities align with project schedules, quality standards, technical specifications, and budget requirements while maintaining compliance with company policies and contractual obligations.
Key Responsibilities
- Review project drawings, specifications, BOQs, and material submittals to identify procurement requirements.
- Prepare and issue Requests for Quotation (RFQs) to approved suppliers and subcontractors.
- Evaluate technical and commercial quotations in coordination with engineering and project teams.
- Negotiate prices, payment terms, delivery schedules, warranties, and contractual conditions with vendors.
- Prepare comparative statements and procurement recommendations for management approval.
- Issue Purchase Orders (POs) and monitor order execution through delivery.
- Coordinate with project, planning, QA/QC, stores, and logistics teams to ensure timely material availability.
- Develop and maintain relationships with approved suppliers and identify alternative sourcing options.
- Track procurement schedules and proactively resolve supply chain issues to prevent project delays.
- Monitor vendor performance, delivery compliance, and product quality.
- Ensure purchased materials comply with approved specifications, project requirements, and applicable standards.
- Maintain procurement documentation, vendor records, contracts, and purchase history.
- Support cost-saving initiatives through value engineering and strategic sourcing.
- Monitor market trends, pricing, and availability of MEP materials and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies, contractual requirements, and applicable regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 3–5 years of procurement experience in MEP construction projects (experience level may vary based on role).
- Strong knowledge of MEP systems, materials, equipment, and construction practices.
- Experience in vendor management, contract negotiation, and procurement planning.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar), and procurement software.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOQs, and technical specifications.
