Job Summary:
The WTP/STP/RO Plant Operator is responsible for the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Water Treatment Plants (WTP), Sewage Treatment Plants (STP), and Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems to ensure efficient plant performance and compliance with environmental and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:Plant Operations
- Operate and monitor WTP, STP, and RO systems as per SOPs.
- Start-up and shutdown of pumps, blowers, compressors, and treatment units.
- Monitor plant parameters such as pH, TDS, flow rate, pressure, turbidity, and chlorine levels.
- Ensure uninterrupted plant operation and optimum performance.
Monitoring & Record Keeping
- Maintain daily log sheets and operational records.
- Record chemical consumption and production data.
- Prepare shift reports and submit to supervisors.
- Monitor water quality and ensure compliance with standards.
Maintenance
- Perform routine preventive maintenance of equipment.
- Clean filters, membranes, tanks, and pipelines.
- Identify and report equipment faults immediately.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams during breakdowns.
Chemical Handling
- Prepare and dose chemicals safely.
- Handle chemicals such as alum, chlorine, antiscalants, and polymers as per guidelines.
- Maintain chemical inventory and storage.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow EHS and safety procedures.
- Use PPE while operating the plant.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Maintain housekeeping around the plant area.
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of WTP/STP/RO processes.
- Ability to read P&ID diagrams and process flow charts.
- Basic understanding of pumps, valves, motors, and instrumentation.
- Knowledge of water quality testing.
- Troubleshooting skills.
- Computer knowledge for report preparation is preferred.
Educational QualificationITI Candidates
- ITI in Fitter / Electrician / Mechanic / Instrumentation / Turner / Pump Operator with 0–5 years experience.
Diploma Candidates
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE)
- Diploma in Chemical Engineering
- Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering
- Diploma in Environmental Engineering
Engineering Graduates (BE/B.Tech)
- BE/B.Tech – Mechanical Engineering
- BE/B.Tech – Chemical Engineering
- BE/B.Tech – Environmental Engineering
- BE/B.Tech – Electrical & Electronics Engineering
- BE/B.Tech – Instrumentation Engineering
- BE/B.Tech – Biotechnology
Other Qualifications
- B.Sc Chemistry
- B.Sc Environmental Science
- B.Sc Microbiology
- M.Sc Chemistry / Environmental Science (preferred for senior roles)
Experience:
- Trainee Operator: Fresher to 1 year
- Operator: 1–3 years
- Senior Operator: 3–5 years
- Shift Incharge/Supervisor: 5+ years
Preferred Certifications:
- Water Treatment/RO Plant Operation Certification
- Safety Training (EHS)
- First Aid Certification
- Confined Space Entry Training
