Electrical Engineer Job DescriptionPosition: Electrical Engineer

Reports To: Electrical Engineer
Position SummaryThe Electrical Engineer is responsible for implementing, and maintaining electrical systems and components for commercial, industrial, and residential properties. This role ensures all electrical infrastructure meets safety standards, operates efficiently, and supports building performance objectives while complying with applicable codes and regulations.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and Engineering
Design electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, security, and low-voltage systems for new construction and renovation projects
Review detailed electrical drawings, specifications, and calculations using CAD software and engineering tools
Review load calculations, voltage drop analysis, and short circuit studies
Select appropriate equipment, materials, and components based on project requirements and budget constraints
Project Management
Coordinate with architects, mechanical engineers, and other design professionals to integrate electrical systems into overall building designs
Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and product data for compliance with design intent
Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and verify installation quality
Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables from concept through commissioning
Technical Analysis and Problem-Solving
Perform energy audits and recommend efficiency improvements
Analyze building electrical systems to identify upgrade opportunities and cost savings
Evaluate new technologies and industry best practices for potential implementation
Compliance and Documentation
Ensure all designs comply with National Electrical Code (NEC), local building codes, and industry standards
Maintain accurate project documentation including as-built drawings and O&M manuals
Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and cost estimates
Support permit applications and regulatory approval processes
Required QualificationsEducation
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required
Experience
3-5 years of experience in electrical engineering design and implementation
Experience with commercial building electrical systems preferred
Knowledge of building automation and energy management systems advantageous
Technical Skills
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar CAD software
Strong understanding of NEC, IEEE standards, and relevant building codes
Familiarity with electrical design software (SKM PowerTools, AGi32, or similar)
Knowledge of sustainable design principles and LEED requirements preferred
Professional Requirements
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain within specified timeframe
Valid driver's license
