Job Summary
The Trainee Chemist will support the Refinery & Recovery (RF & RC) team in the analysis, recovery, refining, and quality control of precious metals used in jewellery manufacturing. The candidate will be trained on laboratory operations, chemical handling, testing procedures, and refinery processes while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in precious metal recovery and refining processes.
- Perform chemical analysis of gold, silver, and other precious metal samples.
- Prepare chemical solutions and reagents as per standard operating procedures.
- Conduct laboratory testing and maintain accurate records of test results.
- Support fire assay, wet chemical analysis, and quality inspection activities.
- Monitor chemical consumption and maintain laboratory inventory.
- Follow laboratory safety procedures, PPE requirements, and environmental guidelines.
- Assist in waste segregation and recovery of precious metals from production residues.
- Calibrate laboratory instruments under the guidance of senior chemists.
- Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping of the laboratory and refinery area.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams whenever required.
Required Skills
- Basic laboratory techniques and chemical handling.
- Knowledge of analytical instruments is an added advantage.
- Good observation and documentation skills.
- MS Office (Excel, Word) knowledge.
- Strong communication and teamwork.
- Willingness to work in shifts if required.
- Quick learner with a positive attitude.
Preferred Knowledge
- Chemical safety and laboratory practices.
- ISO documentation awareness.
- Basic understanding of precious metal refining and recovery processes (preferred but not mandatory).
