Job Description – Ultrasound Typist ( (Madurai))

Designation: Ultrasound Typist
Location: Rio Hospital for Women & Children (Madurai)
Reporting To: Radiologist / Radiology In-Charge / Department Head
Job Purpose
To accurately and efficiently type, format, and finalize ultrasound and imaging reports based on the observations and dictations provided by Radiologists/Consultants, while maintaining confidentiality, accuracy, and timely report delivery.
Key Responsibilities1. Ultrasound Report Typing
- Type ultrasound reports accurately based on the Radiologist's dictation, handwritten notes, or approved reporting system.
- Prepare reports for obstetric, gynecological, abdominal, pelvic, small parts, Doppler, and other ultrasound examinations.
- Ensure correct medical terminology, measurements, findings, impressions, and recommendations are entered.
- Review reports for spelling, grammar, formatting, and typographical errors before submission.
- Ensure all measurements and numerical values are entered exactly as provided by the Radiologist.
2. Report Accuracy & Quality
- Cross-check patient name, UHID/MRN, age, gender, examination type, and other identifiers before preparing the report.
- Verify that the correct patient and investigation details are reflected in the report.
- Maintain consistency with the hospital's approved report formats and templates.
- Immediately clarify any unclear or incomplete information with the Radiologist before finalizing the report.
- Avoid making independent changes to clinical findings or medical terminology.
3. Timely Report Processing
- Complete reports within the defined turnaround time (TAT).
- Prioritize emergency, inpatient, and urgent reports as instructed.
- Coordinate with Radiologists and other departments to ensure timely report completion.
- Track pending reports and follow up appropriately.
4. Hospital Information System / PACS
- Enter and update report information accurately in the Hospital Information System (HIS/HMS/RIS).
- Retrieve patient and investigation details from the hospital system.
- Upload, attach, or verify reports and relevant documents as per departmental procedures.
- Maintain familiarity with ultrasound reporting software, RIS/PACS, and hospital systems.
5. Patient & Department Coordination
- Coordinate professionally with Radiologists, technicians, nurses, front office, medical records, and other departments.
- Respond appropriately to queries regarding report status and documentation.
- Maintain professional communication while handling patient-related information.
6. Confidentiality & Documentation
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient medical records and diagnostic information.
- Follow hospital policies related to patient privacy, data security, and medical documentation.
- Ensure reports are stored and handled securely.
- Do not disclose patient information to unauthorized persons.
7. Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain records of pending, completed, and amended reports as required.
- Assist in maintaining departmental documentation and report templates.
- Support the Radiology department in maintaining smooth day-to-day workflow.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Radiologist / Department In-Charge.
Required Qualifications
- Any Degree / Diploma with relevant typing or medical transcription experience.
- Certification in Medical Transcription / Medical Typing is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience as an Ultrasound Typist, Medical Typist, Medical Transcriptionist, or Radiology Typist preferred.
- Freshers with good typing skills and knowledge of medical terminology may also be considered.
Required Skills
- Good English typing and communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
- Good typing speed with high accuracy.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Basic knowledge of ultrasound terminology and investigations.
- Computer proficiency, including MS Word and hospital software.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet report TAT.
- Good coordination and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information.

Preferred Candidate Profile
A detail-oriented and responsible professional with good English typing skills, medical terminology knowledge, and the ability to work closely with Radiologists to ensure accurate, timely, and professionally formatted ultrasound reports.
Pay: ₹8,685.06 - ₹24,177.97 per month
