Roles and Responsibilities of a Junior Architect1. Design Development
- Assist in the preparation of architectural designs under the supervision of senior architects or project managers.
- Create initial sketches, drawings, and concepts based on client requirements.
- Conduct research on materials, trends, and best practices to incorporate innovative ideas into the design process.
2. Drafting and Documentation
- Prepare detailed 2D and 3D drawings using software like AutoCAD, SketchUp, or Revit.
- Assist in creating construction documentation, including site plans, elevations, sections, and details.
- Organize and maintain project documentation, ensuring accurate and updated records.
3. Collaboration and Coordination
- Work closely with senior architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure alignment on design objectives.
- Attend project meetings to gather information and provide updates on progress.
- Coordinate with various stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
4. Site Visits and Supervision
- Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and ensure adherence to architectural plans.
- Document and report site observations to senior architects or project managers.
- Assist in addressing on-site challenges by providing quick solutions or adjustments to designs.
5. Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure that all designs and plans comply with building codes, zoning laws, and other regulations.
- Review blueprints and specifications to identify errors or areas for improvement.
- Incorporate sustainable design principles and energy-efficient solutions where applicable.
6. Learning and Development
- Stay updated on the latest architectural trends, software, and industry practices.
- Participate in training programs or workshops to enhance technical and design skills.
- Seek feedback from senior team members to refine skills and improve performance.
7. Presentation and Client Interaction
- Assist in preparing presentation materials for client meetings.
- Create visualizations, renderings, and models to communicate design ideas effectively.
- Gather client feedback and make necessary revisions under supervision.
Skills and Competencies Required
- Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Suite, etc.).
- Strong understanding of architectural principles, design concepts, and construction techniques.
- Basic knowledge of building codes and standards.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
