Operations Head – Manufacturing | Steel / Engineering Industry
Ganges Internationale Pvt. Ltd. is looking for an experienced and result-oriented Operations Head to lead manufacturing operations at our Puducherry Plant.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in plant operations, production, quality, dispatch, manpower management, capacity planning, productivity improvement, customer quality, cost control and continuous improvement within a Steel, Engineering, Automotive or Manufacturing environment.
The role will be responsible for driving overall plant performance and ensuring Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity, Cost and People Development objectives are consistently achieved.
Key ResponsibilitiesPlant & Manufacturing Operations
- Lead and oversee overall plant operations, including Production, Quality Assurance and Dispatch.
- Ensure production plans are achieved in line with customer requirements and delivery schedules.
- Monitor daily plant performance and take corrective actions to address production, quality and delivery gaps.
- Establish and monitor key plant performance metrics covering Safety, People, Quality, Response/Delivery and Cost (SPQRC).
- Ensure effective capacity planning, manpower planning and resource utilization.
- Monitor and control WIP, tools and inventory within defined norms.
- Identify bottlenecks and improve production flow, productivity and operational efficiency.
- Drive line balancing, 4M studies and plant/layout improvements wherever required.
Quality & Customer Excellence
- Ensure adherence to defined quality standards, processes and work instructions across shop-floor operations.
- Drive process discipline, calibration compliance and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure achievement of defined quality targets and customer requirements.
- Minimize customer complaints and prevent customer line disruptions.
- Review customer feedback and complaints and ensure effective root-cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Support product and process approvals and ensure compliance with applicable quality systems.
Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing
- Implement and sustain 5S, Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, safety and cost.
- Drive automation and process improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Identify and implement energy-saving and ergonomic improvements.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement throughout the plant.
People & Team Management
- Lead, mentor and develop plant teams to achieve high performance.
- Ensure effective manpower planning, skill development and cross-functional coordination.
- Build a strong performance-oriented culture across production and support functions.
- Coach managers and supervisors and develop the next level of plant leadership.
- Effectively manage conflicts and resolve operational issues.
Supplier & Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with Suppliers, Purchase, Quality, Production, Maintenance, Sales, Dispatch and other functions to ensure smooth plant operations.
- Support supplier development and improvement initiatives.
- Ensure timely resolution of operational and supply-related issues.
Management Reporting & Strategy
- Monitor overall operational performance and provide regular MIS / plant performance reports to the Managing Director.
- Analyze operational data and identify improvement opportunities.
- Support the MD in developing and implementing plant strategy, operational objectives and business plans.
- Ensure consistent performance against agreed Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity and Cost targets.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing and plant operations.
- Strong understanding of production processes, quality systems and Lean Manufacturing.
- Good knowledge of 5S, Kaizen, 4M, line balancing and continuous improvement tools.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage production pressure and resolve operational issues effectively.
- Strong leadership, team-building and people-management skills.
- Good understanding of capacity planning, manpower planning and productivity improvement.
- Ability to analyze operational MIS, KPIs and performance metrics.
- Strong communication and cross-functional coordination skills.
- High level of professionalism, ownership and accountability.
- Ability to work in a dynamic manufacturing environment and respond effectively to changing business requirements.
Quality & Management Systems
Knowledge/exposure to relevant ISO / Integrated Management Systems (IMS) and manufacturing quality standards will be preferred.
Experience with systems such as IATF 16949 / TS 16949, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 / OHSAS 18001 will be an advantage, depending on the candidate's industry background.
Preferred Industry Background
Candidates with experience in the following industries are preferred:
Steel | Engineering | Automotive | Auto Components | Manufacturing | Industrial Products
Experience in a high-volume or process-oriented manufacturing plant will be an added advantage.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a strong Plant Operations / Manufacturing Operations Leader who can take ownership of overall plant performance and work closely with the Managing Director and functional heads to achieve business and operational objectives.
The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong combination of technical knowledge, leadership, operational discipline, commercial awareness and people-management capability.
