EHS Officer (Environment, Health & Safety)

Experience Required: 3 to 6 Years
Industry Preference: Food Manufacturing / FMCG / Potato Processing / Frozen Foods / Agro Processing
Reporting To: EHS Manager / Plant Head
Job Purpose
To ensure implementation and compliance of Environment, Health & Safety systems in the potato flake manufacturing plant by maintaining safe working conditions, statutory compliance, accident prevention, fire safety management, and employee safety awareness.
Key Roles & Responsibilities. Safety Management
- Ensure safe working practices across production, utility, warehouse, maintenance, and packing areas.
- Conduct daily plant safety inspections and identify unsafe acts & conditions.
- Implement safety standards as per Factory Act and company SOPs.
- Monitor use of PPE by all employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Ensure machine guarding and interlock systems are functioning properly.
- Maintain safety signages, barricading, and hazard identification systems.
2. Statutory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with:
- Factory Act
- Gujarat Factory Rules
- Fire & Safety norms
- Pollution Control Board requirements
- Labour safety standards
- Maintain all statutory registers and EHS records.
- Coordinate with government authorities during inspections and audits.
- Ensure timely renewal of licenses, NOCs, and safety certificates.
3. Fire & Emergency Management
- Conduct regular fire drills and emergency mock drills.
- Ensure proper maintenance of:
- Fire extinguishers
- Hydrant systems
- Sprinkler systems
- Fire alarm systems
- Train employees on emergency response procedures.
- Maintain emergency evacuation plans and assembly points.
4. Incident & Accident Investigation
- Investigate accidents, near misses, and unsafe incidents.
- Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Prepare incident investigation reports and submit to management.
5. Environment Management
- Monitor waste disposal practices and environmental compliance.
- Ensure proper handling of:
- Boiler ash
- ETP waste
- Food waste
- Hazardous waste
- Support pollution control initiatives.
- Monitor water consumption, emissions, and waste reduction activities.
6. Training & Awareness
- Conduct safety induction for new employees and contractors.
- Organize toolbox talks and monthly safety training programs.
- Create awareness regarding:
- Chemical handling
- Hot work safety
- Electrical safety
- Work at height
- Confined space entry
- Promote safety culture within the plant.
7. Permit System Management
- Monitor work permit systems for:
- Hot work
- Height work
- Confined space
- Electrical isolation
- Maintenance activities
- Ensure risk assessment before critical jobs.
8. Audit & Documentation
- Support BRC, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, HACCP, and customer audits.
- Maintain EHS documentation and records.
- Prepare monthly EHS reports, KPI reports, and compliance reports.
- Conduct internal EHS audits and closure of observations.
9. Contractor Safety Management
- Ensure contractor compliance with plant safety requirements.
- Conduct contractor safety orientation.
- Monitor contractor manpower during shutdown and project activities.
- Verify safety PPE and certifications before work execution.

Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma / Degree in Industrial Safety, Environment, or Engineering
- Certification in NEBOSH / IOSH / Industrial Safety preferred
- Experience in food manufacturing industry preferred
