The Import Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing all import operations to ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant delivery of goods. This role oversees customs clearance, shipping documentation, vendor coordination, logistics, and regulatory compliance while optimizing the import supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end import process from purchase order to final delivery.
- Coordinate with international suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and shipping companies.
- Ensure compliance with import regulations, customs laws, and company policies.
- Prepare, review, and verify import documentation, including:
- Commercial Invoices
- Packing Lists
- Bill of Lading/Airway Bill
- Certificate of Origin
- Import Licenses
- Insurance Documents
- Monitor shipment schedules and resolve delays or logistics issues.
- Calculate import duties, taxes, and landed costs.
- Work closely with procurement, finance, warehouse, and sales teams.
- Negotiate freight rates and logistics contracts to optimize costs.
- Maintain accurate records of import transactions and documentation.
- Ensure timely customs clearance and compliance with government regulations.
- Track import KPIs and prepare periodic management reports.
- Identify opportunities to improve import processes and reduce lead times.
- Manage and mentor the import operations team.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Business, Commerce, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in import/export operations or international logistics.
- Strong knowledge of customs regulations, international trade laws, and Incoterms.
- Experience working with freight forwarders and customs brokers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.).
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and negotiation skills.
