We are seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Controller to lead and strengthen our financial operations across Canada, the U.S., and Asia. As a small but expanding company, we need someone who is not only strategic but also willing to roll up their sleeves and actively contribute to day-to-day financial operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in financial management, pricing strategy, inventory and supply chain finance, operational efficiency, and executive decision support.
Experience in manufacturing, furniture, import/export, and e-commerce environments is highly preferred.
Oversee all accounting operations, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, inventory accounting, and month-end close.
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Manage consolidated financial reporting across multiple entities and currencies.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies.
Maintain accurate financial records and support audit requirements.
Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
Monitor and manage cash flow, working capital, and liquidity requirements.
Support financing strategies and maintain relationships with banks and lenders.
Analyze financing costs and identify opportunities to improve cash flow efficiency.
Manage seasonal cash flow cycles, including inventory purchases and peak retail periods.
Oversee landed cost analysis, including freight, duties, tariffs, and foreign exchange impacts.
Partner with procurement and overseas suppliers to improve cost management.
Monitor inventory performance, turnover, and valuation.
Support product sourcing decisions through financial analysis and cost optimization initiatives.
Develop and maintain pricing models for retail, wholesale, and marketplace customers.
Analyze margins and profitability across products, channels, and customers.
Provide recommendations on pricing strategies to maximize revenue and profitability.
Support negotiations with retailers and key accounts through financial analysis.
Partner with sales, e-commerce, and operations teams to improve business performance.
Analyze marketplace and e-commerce financial performance.
Support margin optimization across multiple sales channels.
Provide financial insights to support growth initiatives in North America, Europe, and Asia.
Develop and strengthen internal controls and financial processes.
Lead ERP and accounting system improvements.
Improve reporting automation, workflow efficiency, and data accuracy.
Leverage AI tools and automation technologies to improve financial reporting, forecasting, and operational efficiency.
Identify opportunities to streamline manual processes and reduce administrative workload.
Manage and mentor accounting staff and offshore finance resources.
Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, financial institutions, and lenders.
Support executive leadership with strategic financial planning and decision-making.
Foster a culture of accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
CPA, CMA, or equivalent designation preferred.
Minimum 5 years of accounting and finance experience, including at least 2 years in a Controller or senior finance leadership role.
Strong experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
Experience within manufacturing, furniture, consumer goods, import/export, or distribution industries.
Experience managing multi-currency and cross-border operations.
Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting/ERP systems such as QuickBooks, Fishbowl, or similar platforms.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and proactively in a small-company environment.
Experience in furniture manufacturing or furniture e-commerce.
Experience with big-box retailers and retail pricing strategies.
Experience developing pricing models for multiple retail channels.
Experience managing overseas finance teams or outsourced accounting functions.
Familiarity with e-commerce platforms and marketplace business models.
Knowledge of AI tools, automation platforms, and financial analytics technologies.
Experience supporting international expansion and export programs.
Understanding of seasonal inventory and cash flow cycles, including Chinese New Year impacts.
