Internal grade: 3 (mid-senior, individual contributor with sourcing authority)
Reports to: Co-Director (Laurent) / dotted line to Factory Manager (Pranabesh Saha)
Location: Kanota / Jaipur, Rajasthan (EOU site) — relocation or hybrid arrangement anticipated
Function: R&D and Procurement (bridge role)
1. Role purpose
Own the technical development and reformulation of PEIPL concentrate formulas while leading the sourcing and qualification of aromatic raw materials. The role exists to close the gap between formula intent and material reality — selecting, benchmarking, and procuring aroma chemicals and naturals at the right quality, cost, and supply security, with priority on substituting imports with credible Indian sources where viable.
2. Key responsibilities
Development & evaluation (≈50%)
- Reformulate and optimise concentrate formulas against performance and cost targets.
- Interpret GC-MS / HPLC-HRMS analytical reports and competitor deconstructions to guide reformulation.
- Build and adjust formulas for tenacity, bloom, stability, and discoloration control.
- Ensure IFRA compliance, EU allergen labelling, and ANVISA-relevant constraints.
Raw materials sourcing & purchasing (≈50%)
- Identify, qualify, and approve suppliers of aroma chemicals and naturals (domestic and import).
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and supply agreements; manage surcharge/price-indexation clauses.
- Maintain a substitution map (e.g. domestic vs. import for Ambroxan, macrocyclic musks, Iso E Super) and drive import substitution where quality allows.
- Manage supplier quality (incoming specs, COA review, batch consistency), lead times, and inventory risk.
3. Required profile
- Age/experience: ~40, 15 years in fragrance development and/or aromatic raw materials.
- Core knowledge: deep familiarity with aroma chemical and natural raw material families, substitutes, and olfactive behaviour.
- Purchasing: demonstrated experience sourcing and negotiating aromatic raw materials (a genuine differentiator — most developers don't carry this).
- Technical literacy: able to read and act on GC-MS/HPLC data, not just create on the bench.
- Regulatory: working command of IFRA; awareness of EU allergen and export-market labelling rules.
- Languages: English essential; regional language an asset for supplier relations.
