Job Title: Lab Assistant – Food Science & Technology
Location: Amity University Punjab, Mohali
Job Purpose
To provide technical and operational support for food science laboratories, practical classes, experiments, research activities, and laboratory maintenance while ensuring proper safety, hygiene, and handling of laboratory equipment and materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist faculty members and students during laboratory practicals, experiments, and demonstrations.
- Prepare and arrange laboratory equipment, instruments, chemicals, reagents, glassware, raw materials, and food samples for practical sessions.
- Maintain and operate food science laboratory equipment as per standard procedures.
- Assist in experiments related to food chemistry, food microbiology, food processing, food analysis, food safety, quality control, and sensory evaluation.
- Prepare samples, solutions, media, and other materials required for laboratory experiments.
- Support faculty and students in conducting food quality and proximate analysis.
- Maintain proper records of laboratory equipment, chemicals, consumables, samples, and practical activities.
- Ensure proper cleaning, sanitation, hygiene, and safe working conditions in the laboratory.
- Follow laboratory safety procedures and ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and biological materials.
- Monitor laboratory inventory and inform the concerned faculty/department about requirements and shortages.
- Assist in the maintenance and basic troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Support faculty members in research projects, student projects, dissertations, and other academic activities.
- Ensure that laboratory equipment and work areas are ready before practical classes and properly arranged after use.
- Maintain laboratory documentation, logbooks, calibration records, and other relevant records.
- Assist in maintaining food samples and other laboratory materials as per prescribed storage conditions.
- Perform any other laboratory-related duties assigned by the Head of Department/Faculty.
Educational Qualification
- B.Sc./B.Tech in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Science & Technology, Food Processing Technology.
- M.Sc./M.Tech in the relevant discipline will be an added advantage.
Experience
- 0–2 years of relevant laboratory experience in Food Science/Food Technology/food testing/research/academic laboratories.
- Freshers with good practical knowledge may also be considered.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
