General Purchase Manager

Location: Thudiyalur, Coimbatore

1. Job Purpose
The General Purchase Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and controlling the organization’s complete procurement activities. The role ensures timely availability of quality materials, equipment, consumables, and services at competitive prices while maintaining proper vendor management, cost control, and compliance with company policies.
2. Key Responsibilities
Purchase & Procurement
· Develop and implement effective procurement strategies based on organizational requirements.
· Manage the complete purchase cycle from Purchase Requisition to Purchase Order and delivery.
· Source materials, equipment, consumables, and services from reliable suppliers.
· Obtain and evaluate quotations, negotiate prices, payment terms, delivery schedules, and other commercial conditions.
· Ensure timely procurement without affecting day-to-day operations.
· Monitor pending purchase orders and ensure timely delivery of materials.
Vendor Management
· Identify, evaluate, and approve new vendors as per company requirements.
· Maintain an updated vendor database and supplier records.
· Conduct vendor performance evaluations based on quality, cost, delivery, and service.
· Develop long-term relationships with key suppliers.
· Handle vendor negotiations, complaints, disputes, and performance issues.
Cost Control
· Negotiate competitive rates and achieve cost savings through effective procurement.
· Compare quotations and conduct market price analysis.
· Monitor price fluctuations and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
· Ensure purchases are made within approved budgets and authorization limits.
Inventory Coordination
· Coordinate with Stores, Production, Maintenance, Finance, and other departments regarding material requirements.
· Maintain optimum inventory levels and avoid overstocking or stock-outs.
· Review fast-moving, slow-moving, and critical items.
· Ensure procurement is aligned with stock availability and consumption patterns.
Documentation & Compliance
· Ensure proper documentation for Purchase Requisitions, Quotations, Comparative Statements, Purchase Orders, Goods Receipt Notes, and invoices.
· Ensure purchases comply with company policies and approval procedures.
· Maintain proper records for audit and management review.
· Coordinate with Finance and Accounts regarding supplier invoices and payments.
Team Management
· Lead and supervise the Purchase/Procurement team.
· Allocate responsibilities and monitor team performance.
· Train and guide purchase executives and assistants.
· Establish measurable performance targets for the procurement team.

5. Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Commerce, Engineering, or a related discipline.
· MBA / PG qualification in Supply Chain, Procurement, or Operations Management will be an added advantage.
· 8–15 years of relevant experience in Purchase / Procurement, preferably with managerial experience.

8. Authority & Accountability
The General Purchase Manager shall be accountable for ensuring efficient, economical, timely, and transparent procurement operations in accordance with the organization’s approved policies, budgets, and authorization procedures.
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
