We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Team Leader – Underwriting with a strong understanding of credit analysis, income and asset evaluation, collateral assessment, and U.S. mortgage regulations. The ideal candidate will lead, mentor, and manage a team of underwriters, ensuring high-quality output, adherence to SLAs, and continuous performance improvement. This role requires a proactive leader who can drive productivity, foster collaboration, and maintain compliance with industry standards while achieving business objectives.
- Supervise day-to-day production workflows and manage work queues efficiently
- Monitor workflow to ensure tasks are completed within defined timelines and SLAs
- Adjust workload distribution based on volume and traffic patterns
- Maintain and publish required operational and performance reports
- Conduct regular (weekly) quality audits and provide actionable feedback to team members
- Escalate performance or quality concerns to management in a timely manner
- Provide ongoing guidance, training, and floor support to team members and new hires
- Facilitate onboarding and certification of new joiners
- Conduct refresher training sessions as needed to enhance team performance
- Develop and implement performance improvement and disciplinary plans
- Ensure adherence to industry standards, compliance guidelines, and regulatory requirements
- Track and ensure achievement of daily targets and overall team SLAs
- Manage client interactions and support stakeholder communication
- Identify process improvement opportunities and drive operational efficiency
- Handle escalations and resolve issues effectively
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management
- Graduate in any discipline
- Minimum 3–4 years of experience in team handling/management
- At least 2 years of experience as a Team Leader in underwriting (mandatory)
- Strong knowledge of U.S. mortgage underwriting processes and guidelines
- Hands-on experience in conventional loan underwriting (mandatory)
- Knowledge of FHA and VA loan underwriting (preferred)
- Thorough understanding of U.S. federal and state compliance regulations
- Experience in client handling and stakeholder communication
- Expertise in income calculation, asset evaluation, credit review, and appraisal analysis
- Ability to identify red flags and assess underwriting risks
- Familiarity with fraud detection in closing and compliance documentation
- Strong knowledge of mortgage terminology and underwriting standards
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, LOS, LMS, and Selling Guide tools
- Understanding of ISO-level reporting and documentation standards
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills
