Head of Engineering (Wind EPC)
1. Job Purpose
The Head of Engineering is responsible for the overall technical leadership, design integrity, and engineering strategy for large-scale Wind Power projects. This role oversees the transition from concept to commissioning, ensuring that Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) layouts, Pooling Sub-Stations (PSS), and EHV transmission lines are engineered for maximum efficiency, safety, and statutory compliance.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Design Management: Oversee the preparation and approval of detailed engineering designs, including Micro-siting, electrical Single Line Diagrams (SLD), and civil foundations for WTGs.
- Technical Strategy: Lead the engineering feasibility studies for new project sites, focusing on yield optimization and cost-effective Balance of Plant (BOP) solutions.
- Vendor & Contractor Coordination: Review and validate technical submissions from OEMs and sub-vendors. Ensure that engineering outputs align with procurement capabilities.
- Regulatory & Statutory Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with CEA (Central Electricity Authority) norms, Grid Code requirements, and state-specific utility standards (e.g., TANGEDCO/TANTRANSCO).
- Project Lifecycle Oversight: Support the site execution teams in resolving complex technical bottlenecks during the construction and EHV commissioning phases.
- Quality & Standards: Establish and enforce "Simple & Strict" engineering SOPs to maintain high standards of structural and electrical safety.
3. Technical Expertise Required
- Wind Infrastructure: Deep knowledge of WTG technology, EHV Substation design (up to 230kV/400kV), and Power Evacuation systems.
- Software Command: Proficiency in industry-standard tools such as WAsP or WindPRO for energy yield assessment, and AutoCAD for layout design.
- System Integration: Expertise in integrating SCADA systems and ensuring seamless communication between the wind farm and the state load dispatch centers.
4. Leadership & Qualifications
- Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering (M.Tech preferred).
- Experience: 12–15+ years of experience in the Power/Renewable sector, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within a Wind EPC environment.
- Key Skills: Strong project management, commercial acumen regarding engineering costs, and the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams (Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical).
