Concrete Estimator – US Projects
Location: Remote – India
General Description
MCG is seeking a detail-oriented Civil Estimator with strong experience in commercial concrete estimating to support estimating and preconstruction activities for projects in the United States.
The primary responsibility of this role is to prepare accurate and complete estimates for self-perform concrete work, including quantity takeoffs, labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and transportation costs. The estimator will also support bid analysis, proposal preparation, change order pricing, subcontractor/vendor solicitation, and scope review.
Experience with earthwork and underground utilities is preferred. Candidates without extensive experience in these scopes should have a strong civil construction background and the ability to develop these estimating skills over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates for commercial and civil construction projects, with primary emphasis on self-perform concrete.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, bid documents, addenda, and other contract documents to determine project scope and requirements.
- Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for concrete-related scopes, including: Foundations and footings, Slabs-on-grade and elevated slabs, Concrete paving, Sidewalks, Curb and gutter, ADA ramp, Structural concrete, Cast-in-place walls and other related concrete work
- Develop complete estimates incorporating labor, materials, equipment, trucking/transportation, subcontractors, and other direct and indirect project costs.
- Develop labor crews, production assumptions, equipment requirements, and cost build-ups to support complete bid pricing.
- Solicit, review, and analyze supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Prepare bid summaries, scope sheets, inclusions, exclusions, clarifications, qualifications, and proposal-ready documentation.
- Identify scope gaps, discrepancies, constructability concerns, and potential estimating risks during bid review.
- Prepare pricing for change orders and additional work on active projects.
- Assist with estimating earthwork and underground utility scopes as experience and responsibilities expand.
- Coordinate with project management and field personnel to resolve estimating questions, RFIs, scope clarifications, and constructability issues.
- Maintain organized bid files, estimate documentation, historical pricing, production data, supplier information, and subcontractor databases.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, bid reviews, and post-bid discussions when required.
- Support continuous improvement of MCG’s estimating systems, cost database, templates, and standard operating procedures.
- Manage multiple estimates simultaneously while meeting bid deadlines and maintaining accuracy.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of construction estimating experience, with strong experience in commercial or civil concrete estimating.
- Demonstrated experience performing detailed quantity takeoffs and preparing complete estimates for self-perform concrete scopes.
- Strong understanding of concrete construction means and methods, including:
- Formwork
- Reinforcing steel
- Concrete placement
- Labor productivity
- Equipment requirements
- Concrete accessories
- Foundations and structural concrete systems
- Ability to understand and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and construction drawings.
- Experience reviewing specifications, bid documents, addenda, and construction documentation.
- Ability to estimate labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor costs, and production requirements—not only perform quantity takeoffs.
- Ability to independently prepare scopes of work, inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, and qualifications.
- Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and commitment to estimating accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience estimating projects for U.S.-based contractors or construction companies.
- Familiarity with U.S. construction drawings, terminology, bid processes, specifications, and subcontractor/vendor workflows.
- Experience estimating earthwork, including excavation, grading, cut/fill, building pads, import/export, and related sitework.
- Experience estimating underground utilities, including storm drainage, sanitary sewer, domestic water, and fire water.
- Field experience related to concrete, earthwork, or civil infrastructure construction.
- Experience communicating with suppliers, subcontractors, and project teams for pricing and scope clarification.
Software Skills
Strong proficiency with one or more of the following:
- Bluebeam Revu
- PlanSwift
- On-Screen Takeoff or similar digital takeoff software
- Microsoft Excel
Preferred experience with:
- HCSS HeavyBid
- AGTEK
- Procore
- Other estimating, project management, or preconstruction software
Candidates should be comfortable learning new estimating software and adapting to MCG’s estimating systems and workflows.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a strong concrete estimator first, with the technical ability to understand construction means and methods rather than only measure quantities from drawings.
The candidate should be capable of progressing toward broader civil estimating responsibilities, including earthwork and underground utilities, as MCG expands its self-perform capabilities.
Experience in all three scopes—concrete, earthwork, and utilities—is highly valued, but deep concrete estimating experience is the priority for this position.
