Job Summary
Responsible for implementation, and support of enterprise workload automation using Control‑M. This role ensures reliable batch processing, SLA adherence, platform stability, and automation enablement across distributed, mainframe, and cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities
1) Workload Automation Design & Scheduling • Own end to end job flow design: build, schedule, and orchestrate complex batch workflows across platforms (Windows, Linux/Unix, Mainframe if applicable). • Use Control M GUI/Enterprise Manager to define job dependencies, calendars, cyclic jobs, conditions, resources, time windows, and rerun rules. • Enforce naming standards, folder structures, and reusable templates. 2) Installation, Upgrade & Patching • Install, configure, and upgrade Control M components: Control M/Server, Control M/Agents, Control M/EM, and relevant Application Integrator/Plugins (e.g., SAP, Informatica, Hadoop, File Transfer, AWS/Azure). • Perform patching and hotfix rollouts, coordinate with OS teams, validate post-upgrade health, and maintain rollback plans. 3) Agent & Plugin Administration • Deploy and maintain Control M Agents (including agentless where used), configure secure communication, host groups, and High Availability scenarios. • Manage Application Plugins (Control M for SAP, Informatica, Database, MFT, Azure/AWS, Kubernetes, etc.), including credentials, endpoints, and version compatibility. 4) SLA & Batch Operations Management • Configure and monitor SLAs, forecasts, and Critical Path jobs; proactively prevent breaches using Monitoring, Forecast, and Alerts. • Implement Workload Policies/Throttling and resource balancing to meet batch windows and reduce peak contention. 5) Troubleshooting, Incident & Problem Management • Lead L1/L2/L3 triage for job failures, agent/communication issues, plugin errors, file transfer failures, and performance bottlenecks. • Analyze logs (ctm*, em*, agent logs), perform root cause analysis (RCA), create knowledge articles, and drive permanent fixes. 6) Security, Compliance & Audit • Administer users, roles, authorizations, and folders per least privilege principles (including LDAP/AD integration and SSO if enabled). • Manage secrets/credentials vaulting (Control M Vault or enterprise vaults), audit trails, and change records; support SOX/ISO evidence collection. 7) Performance Tuning & Capacity Planning • Tune Control M databases, housekeeping, archive/ purge strategies, and EM/Server parameters. • Monitor throughput, queue depth, agent load, and plan capacity for growth (new applications, seasonal peaks, M&A, cloud migrations). 8) DevOps Enablement & self service • Implement Control M Automation API and as code practices (JSON/REST), integrate with CI/CD (Jenkins/Azure DevOps/GitLab). • Enable developer self service through Site Standards frameworks, templates, and guardrails; review and promote artifacts across DEV QA PROD. 9) File Transfer & Data Pipeline Orchestration • Configure and support Control M MFT/MFT Enterprise, secure endpoints, keys, and routing. • Orchestrate ETL/ELT/data platform jobs (Informatica, DataStage, SSIS, Spark, Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery), including event/file triggers and error handling patterns. 10) Backup/Recovery, DR & Environment Hygiene • Maintain backup/restore procedures for EM/Server databases and configurations (including Export/Import of definitions). • Participate in DR tests, multi site/HA design, and ensure configuration drift is controlled via versioning and promotion workflows.
Skill Requirements
3+ years of experience in workload automation or batch scheduling Strong hands-on experience with Control‑M architecture and administration Experience supporting enterprise production environments with strict SLAs Knowledge of Linux/Unix and Windows environments Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change Management)
Other Requirements
Nice to have / Senior level Differentiators • Cloud & Containers: Control M integrations with AWS (Lambda, Batch, S3), Azure (Data Factory, Functions), GCP, and Kubernetes Jobs/CronJobs. • Observability: Dashboards and alerts via Control M, Splunk, AppDynamics, Grafana, etc. • Scripting & Automation: Strong in Shell/PowerShell/Python, REST APIs, JSON; build utilities for mass updates, reporting, and health checks. • Stakeholder Management: Partner with app teams for onboarding, dependency mapping, and change management; communicate batch health to leadership.
