The Manager, Product Management is a member of the Next Generation Software Solutions (NGSS) team whose mission is to drive better and faster results for Bain consultants and clients through digital products that are embedded in Bain's consulting solutions. The NGSS team partners closely with Industry and Capability Practices to bring Bain's IP to life through the development and growth of tools, technologies, services, and support capabilities. In this role, the Manager collaborates closely with the Practice to understand how software fits into the consulting strategy and is responsible for delivering product outcomes that drive commercial objectives. The Manager, Product Management is responsible for the end-to-end discovery, development and delivery of all features/functionality for one larger or a few smaller products, and proactively takes ownership of product outcomes and drives cross-functional teams to delivery. The Manager may also be responsible for the day-to-day management, professional development, and coaching of their direct reports.
Key responsibilities:
- Discovery and Delivery Execution (35%)
- Utilize continuous discovery and hypothesis-driven processes to assess customer and business needs and market trends, surface opportunities, define requirements, experiment to validate, and prioritize high-impact work
- Lead cross-functional development teams (including vendors and third-party partners) as an agile product owner, guiding iterative development processes and maintaining a groomed, prioritized product backlog
- Drive successful product releases, adoption and retention through internal and external enablement activities
- Product Strategy, Planning and Operations (35%)
- Understand the broader Bain vision, relevant consulting solution(s) and software-enabled consulting strategy to contribute to the execution of product strategy in partnership with the Practice
- Develop and execute product roadmap and OKRs to achieve product objectives, including product positioning, budgeting, pricing, and go-to-market strategy
- Adhere to product governance and reporting processes, and support team formation activities by aligning roles, responsibilities, and ways of working
Product Mindset and Customer Insights (15%)
- Proficient in product management and software development best practices to maximize value delivery, surface tradeoffs, manage risks and optimize processes; train and educate others
- Deeply understand client workflows and use cases, and track and analyze key metrics, voice of the customer, and user feedback to provide insights to the business and development, informing product decisions
- Collaboration and Influence (15%)
- Proactively takes ownership and responsibility of product outcomes, driving cross-functional and cross-departmental teams across Bain, vendors and third-party partners, influencing and inspiring teams to deliver
- Actively participate in department initiatives, contributing to departmental best practices and facilitating training to exchange ideas and solve problems
- May take on management responsibilities; participate in onboarding and new hire training
Qualifications
- 8 - 10 years of experience
- Associate's/Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- In-depth understanding of Agile methodologies
- Ability to facilitate workshops, brainstorming sessions, story mapping, and create consensus among cross-functional teams
- Ability to drive outcomes using critical and strategic thinking
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Proactively drives innovative solutions, navigates ambiguity, and synthesizes information for efficient problem resolution
- Ability to act as an emerging leader; that visibly contributes to team culture and morale, mentors and collaborates with team members to achieve goals
- Effectively communicates across all levels, fostering collaboration and buy-in through clear, compelling interactions with stakeholders
- Direct product-related experience as a product manager, product owner, product strategist, or business/data analyst.
- Direct experience (or certification) with agile methodologies, product owner experience recommended
- Experience with B2B products
