Location: Bangalore
Employment Type: Consultant
Project: SARVA at ARTGarage and IISc
About SARVA
SARVA (Surgical Anastomosis with Robotic Vascular Access) is an In-house Innovations project led by Dr. M. M. Yusuf (Apollo Hospital, Chennai) on the clinical side, and Prof. G. K. Ananthasuresh (IISc) on the design side. This project aims to develop a robotic surgical system that automates and simplifies the Coronary Artery Bypass Graft surgery procedure.
About the Role
As a Design Engineer at ARTPARK working on the SARVA project, you will be responsible for the design, prototyping, testing, and validation of a deployable miniaturized mechanical device that can perform the anastomosis procedure after it is guided through a catheter.
Key responsibilities
1. Detailed mechanical design of an anastomotic device for the given specifications based on the conceptual designs generated so far in the project.
2. Nonlinear finite element modelling of Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) material and components made with it.
3. Optimization of the device using the principles of rigid-body and compliant mechanisms.
4. Geometric design and visualization of components, assembly, and operation of the device.
5. Prototyping of the device and exploring manufacturing options.
6. Testing (including helping with animal trials), redesign, and validation.
Required Qualifications
1. MTech or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics with specialization in mechanism design.
2. Prior experience in the design of medical devices.
3. Proficiency in CAD, FEA, and optimization.
4. Good communication abilities and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment comprising academic, clinical, and startup ecosystem.
