Festivals From India is hiring for one of Mumbai’s premier museums and is looking for a Curatorial Assistant. The ideal candidate will support their curatorial, exhibition, and public programming initiatives, with a particular focus on modern and contemporary art. The role involves conducting research, assisting with the development and execution of exhibitions, and contributing to educational and outreach programmes. The candidate will also support exhibition planning and display, write curatorial and catalogue texts, liaise with press, international agencies, and key stakeholders, and help coordinate day-to-day interactions with docents, museum staff, and operational teams.
This role is ideal for someone with strong research, writing, and communication skills and a keen interest in working at the intersection of contemporary exhibitions, collections, and public engagement.

Essential Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Modern and Contemporary Art History, Cultural Studies, Arts Management or a related field.
- Good knowledge of computers, digital interfaces, and general administrative tools.
- Excellent command of English – both verbal and written; Marathi is an advantage.
Essential Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in the arts, museum, or cultural sector. International exposure is desirable.
- Experience supporting the planning and execution of exhibitions, display coordination, and educational or outreach programmes.
- Experience writing exhibition texts, catalogue content, curatorial notes, and other interpretive materials.
- Proven involvement in planning and executing educational, public, and outreach programmes.
- Experience coordinating exhibition displays, installations, and day-to-day curatorial logistics.

Key Roles/Responsibilities:
Curatorial Research & Content Development
- Conduct research on modern and contemporary art, artists, collections, and related themes to support exhibitions and curatorial projects.
- Assist in developing curatorial concepts, exhibition narratives, and interpretive frameworks.
- Draft exhibition texts, catalogue content, wall labels, and other curatorial materials.
- Support archival, collection-based, and contextual research for museum programmes and publications.
Exhibitions & Display Coordination
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of temporary and permanent exhibitions.
- Support exhibition display planning, installation, de-installation, and on-ground curatorial logistics.
- Coordinate with artists, lenders, designers, fabricators, and internal teams to ensure timely exhibition delivery.
- Help maintain exhibition schedules, checklists, and curatorial documentation.
Public Programmes & Outreach
- Support the planning and execution of educational programmes, outreach initiatives, talks, and public events linked to exhibitions and collections.
- Assist in developing content and research inputs for workshops, guided tours, and learning programmes.
- Coordinate with educators, docents, and external collaborators to support programme delivery.
- Contribute to strengthening audience engagement through accessible and meaningful programming.
Stakeholder Coordination & Museum Support
- Liaise with artists, press, partner institutions, international agencies, and other stakeholders as required.
- Coordinate with internal museum teams, including operations, docents, and programme teams, to support smooth execution of projects.
- Assist with administrative and logistical tasks related to exhibitions, loans, meetings, and museum initiatives.
- Support the day-to-day functioning of the curatorial department through effective coordination, communication, and follow-through.
Pay: ₹700,000.00 - ₹750,000.00 per year
