Role description
The primary responsibility is to validate data integrity, accuracy, completeness, and consistency throughout the migration lifecycle, ensuring that business-critical geospatial and non-spatial data remain unchanged and fit for purpose after migration. The role requires hands-on expertise in data validation, reconciliation, quality assurance, and defect analysis, along with the ability to define data quality benchmarks where requirements are not clearly documented. Key Responsibilities Define and execute the data validation strategy for cloud migration and rehosting activities. Establish data quality baselines from the production environment and validate migrated data against source systems. Verify data completeness, accuracy, consistency, integrity, and reconciliation between on-premise and cloud-hosted environments. Perform validation of both spatial (GIS) and non-spatial data across databases, APIs, services, and downstream systems. Create and execute SQL-based validation scripts, reconciliation processes, and data comparison routines. Validate ETL/data migration processes and identify data discrepancies, transformation issues, and data loss risks. Define data quality benchmarks and acceptance criteria where data validation requirements are not formally documented. Conduct source-to-target mapping validation and end-to-end data flow verification. Analyze data defects, perform root cause analysis, and work with development, migration, and business teams to resolve issues. Produce detailed test evidence, reconciliation reports, defect summaries, and migration sign-off documentation. Support business users during UAT by providing data quality assessments and validation findings. Required Skills & Experience 6+ years of hands-on experience in Data Testing, Database Testing, and Data Quality Validation. Strong SQL skills with experience validating large and complex datasets. Experience working with relational databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar platforms. Hands-on experience in data migration, ETL testing, and source-to-target reconciliation. Experience validating data across APIs, databases, files, and reporting layers. Strong understanding of data integrity constraints, referential integrity, and data quality principles. Ability to independently define validation rules, reconciliation approaches, and acceptance criteria. Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and cloud-based databases is preferred. Knowledge of test management and defect tracking tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, or ALM. Desirable Experience Experience working with Geospatial/GIS datasets, spatial databases, map services, and location-based data. Familiarity with tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, PostGIS, or similar geospatial platforms. Experience validating spatial attributes, coordinates, layers, geometries, and metadata during migration. Understanding of data governance, data lineage, and data quality frameworks. Key Deliverables Data Validation Strategy and Test Plan. Source-to-Target Mapping Validation Reports. Ideal Candidate Profile A proactive and detail-oriented Data Tester who can independently define data validation benchmarks, execute reconciliation and validation activities, analyze discrepancies, assess data quality risks, and provide recommendations to ensure the migrated cloud solution maintains the same level of data integrity, accuracy, and reliability as the current production environment.
