Head Chef – Job Role
A Head Chef oversees all kitchen operations in a restaurant, hotel, or food establishment. They design menus, manage staff, ensure food quality, and control costs while maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety.
Key Responsibilities1. Menu Planning & Food Creation
- Design and update menus based on trends, seasonality, and customer preferences
- Develop new recipes and presentation styles
- Ensure consistency in taste and quality
2. Kitchen Management
- Supervise daily kitchen operations
- Organize workflow and assign tasks to chefs and kitchen staff
- Ensure smooth coordination during service
3. Staff Supervision & Training
- Hire, train, and mentor kitchen staff
- Monitor performance and provide feedback
- Maintain discipline and teamwork
4. Quality Control
- Ensure all dishes meet high standards before serving
- Maintain consistency in portion size, taste, and presentation
- Handle customer feedback related to food
5. Inventory & Cost Control
- Manage food inventory and order supplies
- Control food costs and minimize waste
- Work within budget constraints
6. Hygiene & Safety Compliance
- Ensure kitchen complies with food safety regulations
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards
- Monitor proper food storage and handling
7. Supplier Coordination
- Work with vendors to source quality ingredients
- Negotiate prices and ensure timely deliveries
8. Administrative Duties
- Plan budgets and track expenses
- Prepare reports for management
- Ensure compliance with company policies
