Key Responsibilities
1. Flexible Packaging Production Planning & Execution
- Plan and manage daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules for flexible packaging lines (films, laminates, pouches, bags, rolls).
- Ensure production targets are met in terms of volume, quality, and on-time delivery (OTD).
- Optimize machine utilization across extrusion, lamination, printing, slitting, and converting lines.
- Coordinate with Procurement, Quality, Maintenance, and Logistics for seamless end-to-end operations.
2. Operations & Process Management
- Supervise multi-shift production teams across flexible packaging processes.
- Monitor adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all converting processes.
- Identify bottlenecks in film extrusion and related application machines (bottom-seal and side-seal machines) and take corrective actions to improve efficiency and productivity.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, Lean, Six Sigma) to increase throughput and reduce waste/downtime.
- Manage changeovers efficiently to minimize production loss.
3. Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure flexible packaging products meet customer specifications: film gauge, seal strength, OTR/WVTR, print quality, and appearance standards.
- Collaborate with the Quality team to resolve production-related NCRs and implement CAPAs.
- Maintain compliance with ISO 9001, BRC/FSSC 22000 (food-grade packaging), environmental regulations, and safety standards.
- Support customer audits and certification processes.
4. Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop production supervisors, operators, and shift staff.
- Conduct structured performance evaluations and identify skill development needs.
- Ensure optimal manpower planning, skill matrix maintenance, and shift scheduling.
- Build a high-performance culture centered on accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
5. Maintenance Coordination & EHS
- Plan and execute preventive maintenance (PM) schedules for extrusion lines, laminators, slitters, and bag/pouch machines.
- Ensure all machinery is operated safely with adherence to EHS guidelines.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and toolbox talks.
- Drive near-miss reporting culture and implement proactive corrective actions.
6. Cost Control & Inventory Management
- Monitor raw material consumption (polymers, adhesives, inks, solvents) and minimize material wastage.
- Drive process optimization to reduce scrap, re-work, and trim waste in slitting/converting operations.
- Ensure accurate production reporting and inventory reconciliation.
- Support annual budgeting and identify cost-saving opportunities through yield improvement.
7. Reporting, Data & KPI Management
- Prepare and review daily production reports, shift summaries, and KPI dashboards.
- Track and analyse key metrics: OEE, scrap rate, downtime, yield, OTIF, and cost per unit.
- Provide data-driven recommendations for process and productivity improvements.
- Maintain complete and accurate production records for traceability and audits.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Plastic Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Certification in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt), or equivalent is an advantage.
- Knowledge of Twin-screw extrusion for compounding will be an added advantage.
