PSGR Krishnammal College for Women invites candidates for the following position:
Role Overview:
The Lab Assistant will support academic and research activities in the Chemistry Department by assisting faculty and students during laboratory sessions, maintaining laboratory equipment and chemicals, ensuring safety compliance, and managing inventory and documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and set up laboratory equipment, glassware, and materials for experiments
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of chemicals and reagents
- Assist faculty members and students during laboratory practical sessions and examinations
- Maintain laboratory instruments, including routine maintenance and calibration
- Manage laboratory inventory, including chemicals, glassware, and equipment
- Raise requisitions and ensure timely procurement of lab supplies
- Ensure proper disposal of expired and hazardous chemicals
- Enforce laboratory safety protocols and conduct regular safety checks
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory
- Keep accurate records of chemical usage, equipment maintenance, and repairs
- Assist in preparing laboratory-related reports and documentation
- Report and document any laboratory incidents or accidents
Qualification & Experience:
- Educational qualification of UG/PG (preferably in Chemistry or relevant discipline)
- Prior experience in a chemistry laboratory environment will be an added advantage
Skills Required:
- Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and procedures
- Ability to handle chemicals and laboratory equipment responsibly
- Good organizational and record-keeping skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students
