The Engagement
We are hiring an online tutor for a first-year university student in Toronto, Canada, for the fall term, for one course: Calculus I. Sessions are twice per week, 60 to 90 minutes each, on Google Meet, teaching to the student's actual course outline and exam, not your own syllabus. The course outline and recommended problem sets will be shared with the selected tutor.
The Course
Standard first-year differential and integral calculus. Textbook: Stewart, Clegg and Watson, Single Variable Calculus: Early Transcendentals, 9th edition. Coverage:
- Limits and continuity: limit laws, Squeeze Theorem, one-sided and infinite limits, asymptotes, Intermediate Value Theorem
- Derivatives: definition, all differentiation rules, chain rule, implicit differentiation, logarithmic and inverse trig derivatives
- Applications: related rates, linear approximation, extrema, curve shape, l'Hospital's Rule, optimization
- Integration: antiderivatives, definite integrals, Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, net change, substitution rule
Subject 2: General Chemistry
First-year chemical dynamics. Textbook: Petrucci, Herring, Madura and Bissonnette, General Chemistry: Principles and Modern Applications, 11th edition. Coverage:
- Chemical kinetics: rate laws, integrated rate laws, half-life, collision and transition-state theory, Arrhenius equation, mechanisms, catalysis
- Equilibrium: Kc, Kp, Q, Le Chatelier, acids and bases, polyprotic acids, buffers, Henderson-Hasselbalch, titration curves, Ksp and solubility
- Entropy and free energy: spontaneity, microstates, Gibbs-Helmholtz, K from thermodynamic data
- Electrochemistry: redox balancing, voltaic and electrolytic cells, standard potentials, Nernst-type reasoning, Faraday's laws
Who We Are Looking For
- You have taught this exact level before: first-year university calculus or IIT-JEE level mathematics
- You teach problems, not lectures: sessions are worked examples from the student's own problem sets
- Fluent English instruction
- Reliable availability in at least one of these IST windows: 5:30 to 8:30 pm, 6:30 to 8:00 am, or 10:30 pm to 12:30 am. Late-night tutors welcome
- Stable internet, quiet space, and a way to write math legibly on screen: tablet, writing pad, or document camera
Pay and Process
- 300 to 600 INR per hour depending on experience; quote your rate and a monthly package rate for 2 sessions per week
- One PAID trial session on a topic from the actual course outline; the student picks whoever explains best
- Payment monthly by UPI or bank transfer
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
