A Maintenance Supervisor in a foundry industry is responsible for ensuring that all machinery, equipment, and facility systems operate efficiently, safely, and with minimal downtime. Foundries involve heavy equipment like furnaces, molding machines, conveyors, and casting systems, so maintenance is critical.
Here’s a clear breakdown of the job description:
1. Equipment Maintenance & Repair
- Supervise maintenance of furnaces, ladles, casting machines, sand systems, and material handling equipment
- Plan and execute preventive and predictive maintenance schedules
- Quickly troubleshoot and resolve breakdowns to reduce downtime
2. Team Supervision
- Lead and manage a team of technicians, fitters, electricians, and welders
- Assign daily maintenance tasks and monitor performance
- Provide training and guidance to improve team skills
3. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance work follows safety standards and PPE usage
- Maintain compliance with industrial safety regulations
- Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments
4. Planning & Coordination
- Coordinate with production teams to schedule maintenance without affecting output
- Maintain maintenance logs, reports, and equipment history records
- Manage spare parts inventory and ensure availability
5. Continuous Improvement
- Identify recurring issues and implement long-term solutions
- Work on cost reduction and efficiency improvement projects
- Support installation and commissioning of new equipment
Skills Required
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
- Leadership and team management skills
- Familiarity with maintenance software (CMMS systems)
- Understanding of foundry processes (melting, molding, casting)
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering
- 3–8+ years of experience in maintenance, preferably in foundry or heavy industry
Working Conditions
- Industrial environment with exposure to heat, dust, and noise
- Shift-based work, including emergency call-ins for breakdowns
