Job Summary
An Operation Theatre Technician is responsible for preparing and maintaining the operation theatre, assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff during surgical procedures, and ensuring that all surgical equipment and instruments are sterilized, functional, and available for safe patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the operation theatre before surgeries.
- Arrange surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies.
- Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses during operations.
- Ensure proper sterilization and handling of surgical instruments.
- Maintain OT aseptic and infection control standards.
- Check functionality of OT equipment such as monitors, suction machines, cautery machines, ventilators, and anesthesia machines.
- Transfer patients safely to and from the operation theatre.
- Maintain inventory of surgical supplies and consumables.
- Dispose of biomedical waste according to hospital protocols.
- Maintain OT records, checklists, and documentation.
- Assist in emergency and trauma procedures when required.
- Coordinate with CSSD, nursing, and other departments for smooth OT functioning.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma / Degree in Operation Theatre Technology or related allied health science field.
- Certification in OT Technology preferred.
- Basic knowledge of surgical procedures and sterile techniques.
- CPR/BLS certification is an added advantage.
Experience
- Fresher or 1–3 years of experience in hospital operation theatre setup.
- Experience in multispecialty hospitals preferred.
Skills Required
- Knowledge of surgical instruments and OT procedures.
- Understanding of infection control practices.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations.
- Attention to detail and patient safety awareness.
Working Conditions
- Rotational shifts including night duties and emergency call duties.
- Exposure to surgical and clinical environments.
Salary
As per hospital norms and experience.
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
