Job Description: Automation Engineer (Filling & Packaging Machinery) Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer with hands-on experience in industrial filling and packaging machinery. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, programming, and maintaining automation solutions that enhance the performance, reliability, and efficiency of our machines. This role involves working closely with mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, design and production teams to deliver cutting-edge automation systems that improve productivity and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and optimize automation solutions for filling and packaging equipment and process (filling, capping, sealing, mixing, batching, wrapping, etc.).
- Develop and program PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems for industrial machinery.
- Troubleshoot and resolve automation issues to minimize downtime and improve productivity.
- Integrate sensors, actuators, robotics, and vision systems into production lines.
- Collaborate with mechanical and electrical teams during equipment installation, commissioning, and start-up.
- Perform upgrades and modifications to existing equipment to improve efficiency, safety, and reliability.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards (GMP, ISO, etc.) in packaging operations.
- Maintain detailed documentation of automation designs, software versions, and change logs.
- Train operators and maintenance staff on new or modified systems.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in line efficiency, energy consumption, and automation best practices.
- Provide onsite installation, trials and commissioning.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, or related field.
- 3–5 years of proven experience in automation for filling and packaging machinery.
- Strong expertise in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, or similar).
- Experience with HMI/SCADA applications and industrial communication protocols (Profibus, Profinet, Modbus, Ethernet/IP).
- Knowledge of control systems, servo drives, VFDs, various sensors, flowmeters, Loadcells and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
- Familiarity with vision inspection systems, robotics, and motion control in packaging operations.
- Good understanding of industrial safety standards, machine safeguarding, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with a hands-on approach.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and documentation abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in food, beverage, cosmetics, or pharmaceutical packaging machinery.
- Exposure to Industry 4.0 technologies (IoT, predictive maintenance, data analytics).
- Knowledge of validation and qualification protocols for regulated industries.
