Job description
Company Description MK Fasteners - India is a manufacturing company located in Bommasandra Industrial Area, 3rd Phase, Hosur Main Road, Bengaluru (Bangalore Rural), Karnataka. The company operates in a key industrial hub, serving regional and national customers with fastener solutions. Team members work in a production-focused environment where precision, consistency, and adherence to standards are essential. The location offers access to established industrial infrastructure and opportunities to collaborate with other manufacturing and engineering businesses in the area.
Job Title: Quality Engineer – In-Process Inspection (Surface Treatment & Laboratory)Position Summary
The In-Process Quality Engineer ensures that all fastener surface treatment processes meet strict automotive, industrial, and international quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ASTM, CQI-11/CQI-9). This role is responsible for real-time monitoring of plating/coating lines, conducting critical laboratory testing, managing chemical bath parameters, and preventing non-conformances before final packaging.
Key Responsibilities1. In-Process Inspection & Production Monitoring
- Line Audits: Conduct regular hourly/shift audits of surface treatment lines (Electroplating, Phosphating, Blackening, Zinc Flaking, Geomet coating, etc.).
- Visual & Dimensional Inspection: Inspect treated fasteners for surface defects (e.g., blistering, pitting, burning, un-plated areas) and verify thread go/no-go gauges post-plating to ensure coating thickness hasn't compromised thread tolerances.
- Process Parameter Verification: Monitor and log critical process parameters such as chemical tank temperatures, current density (Amperage/Voltage), immersion times, and baking oven temperatures (especially for hydrogen embrittlement relief).
2. Laboratory Testing & Analysis
- Coating Thickness Verification: Operate and calibrate testing equipment like X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) analyzers, magnetic gauges, or microscopic cross-sectioning tools to verify coating thickness.
- Corrosion Resistance Testing: Set up, monitor, and evaluate fasteners subjected to Salt Spray Testing (SST) according to ASTM B117 or ISO 9227 standards.
- Mechanical & Functional Testing: Perform torque-tension testing, coefficient of friction verification, hardness testing (Vickers/Rockwell), and hydrogen embrittlement baking validation tests.
- Chemical Bath Analysis: Work closely with lab technicians to perform titrations and chemical analysis of plating baths to maintain optimum concentration levels.
3. Defect Management & Corrective Actions (CAPA)
- Hold & Non-Conformance: Immediately isolate, tag, and issue hold notices for any batches failing in-process limits or lab testing.
- Root Cause Analysis: Lead troubleshooting efforts for plating failures (e.g., poor adhesion, low salt spray life, hydrogen embrittlement failures) using tools like 5-Why, Fishbone diagrams, and 8D reports.
- Rework Supervision: Define and validate the rework criteria for stripped and re-plated fasteners to ensure material integrity is not compromised.
4. Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate records of in-process inspection logs, chemical analysis reports, and laboratory test certificates.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with IATF 16949 standards and specific automotive treatments under CQI-11 (Plating System Assessment) or CQI-12 (Coating System Assessment).
- Update Control Plans, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the laboratory and plating lines.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Material Science, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: 2 to 5 years of experience in a Quality Control/Laboratory role within a Fasteners manufacturing setup or an industrial surface treatment plant.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of fastener standards (ISO, DIN, ASTM, ASME).
- Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment (XRF, Salt Spray Chambers, Micro-hardness testers, Titration setups).
- Deep understanding of Hydrogen Embrittlement risks in high-tensile fasteners (Grade 8.8, 10.9, 12.9) and the required baking processes.
- Certifications (Preferred): Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), internal auditor training for IATF 16949, or familiarity with CQI-11/CQI-12 assessments.
Pay: From ₹400,000.00 per year
