Billing Engineer – Job DescriptionPosition Summary
The Billing Engineer develops, configures, and supports billing platforms and processes to ensure accurate customer billing, revenue recognition, and financial reporting. They work closely with finance, operations, product, and software engineering teams to manage billing systems and resolve billing-related issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain billing and invoicing systems.
- Configure pricing plans, rate structures, taxes, discounts, and billing rules.
- Monitor billing processes to ensure accuracy and timely invoice generation.
- Analyze billing data and troubleshoot discrepancies or system issues.
- Integrate billing platforms with ERP, CRM, payment gateways, and other business systems.
- Develop reports and dashboards related to revenue, billing performance, and customer accounts.
- Support month-end and year-end financial reconciliation activities.
- Collaborate with finance teams to ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
- Automate billing workflows to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
- Perform testing and validation of billing system changes and upgrades.
- Investigate customer billing disputes and provide technical resolutions.
- Document billing processes, configurations, and system changes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience with billing platforms and financial systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of databases and SQL.
- Understanding of revenue recognition and accounting principles.
- Experience with system integrations and APIs.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP ERP, Oracle NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics 365.
- Experience with billing platforms such as Zuora, Chargebee, or Stripe Billing.
- Programming knowledge (Python, Java, JavaScript, or similar).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and data analytics tools.
- Understanding of tax calculation and compliance requirements.
