Job Description:
We are looking for a hands-on and technically skilled Molding Engineer / Incharge to lead our injection molding and overmolding operations. This is a critical leadership role suited for someone who knows how to optimize machine parameters, maintain tooling, and lead a team of operators to produce flawless custom molded cables and connectors.
Role Overview
The Molding Incharge will take complete ownership of the molding department on the shop floor. You will be responsible for setting up vertical and horizontal injection molding machines, optimizing process parameters for cable overmolding and troubleshooting defects. Along with technical execution, you will manage a team of machine operators, ensure daily production targets are met, and maintain strict adherence to quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Set up, monitor, and optimize process parameters (temperature, injection pressure, holding time, cooling) on injection molding machines.
Lead and manage a team of molding machine operators, ensuring proper shift allocation and maximum machine utilization.
Troubleshoot and resolve common molding defects such as flash, short shots, sink marks, voids, and burn marks.
Coordinate with the tool room /maintenance teams for the routine upkeep, cleaning, and repair of molds and molding machines.
Conduct trial runs for new molds or new materials and establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) and control plans.
Monitor cycle times, rejection levels, and productivity.
Maintain smooth coordination among shifts.
Work closely with the QA team to ensure all molded parts meet dimensional, visual, and functional specifications.
Coordinate mold change activities and trial runs.
Maintain strict 5S, safety, and material handling discipline within the molding area.
Effective utilization of manpower and other resources.
New machine set ups
Required Experience
4–7+ years of hands-on experience in plastic injection molding, specifically within the cable assembly, wire harness, or electronics industry.
Strong direct experience with insert molding and overmolding onto cables and connectors.
Proven experience managing a team of machine operators and technicians (minimum 5–10 people).
Practical experience working with cable-grade polymers such as PVC, TPU, TPE, and PE.
Skills & Attributes
Excellent technical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills on the shop floor.
Strong leadership qualities with the ability to guide, train, and hold a team accountable.
High attention to detail; you understand that a tiny variation in temperature or pressure can ruin an entire batch.
Ownership mindset focused on execution, reducing machine downtime, and minimizing scrap.
Knowledge Requirements
Deep understanding of injection molding machine mechanics, hydraulics, and control panels.
Working knowledge of mold design, gating, venting, and basic mold maintenance.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and product specifications.
Familiarity with ISO 9001 / IPC-A-620 standards as they relate to molded cable assemblies is highly preferred.
What We Are Looking For
This role is for a technical leader who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty. We are looking for someone who can confidently dial in a machine, fix a process issue on the fly, and inspire their team to consistently hit production and quality targets.
Benefits:
- Cell phone reimbursement
- Flexible schedule
